, I've always felt that Bose is more about the Base and the highs can be too "bright" for my ears. It's not bad, it's just not good either.
BOSE is terrible at least on the Taycan... no highs, no lows, must be BOSE.

Burmester is simply mile aheads.. Set Auro 3D to intensity 6 or 7. It will be super immersive.

Agreed. Need to be fully immersed when Lalisa raps ?
Bah, not really my type of music… but I get it. Over there in the US, you need the full immersion just to understand a single word she says ?

lol, I get it, but even at the higher settings of Auro 3D it's still a shadow of what I got used to in the MB. Like I said, it's good, just not as good as the MB implementation. BTW, on the MB, I didn't have to turn up the 3D effect nearly as much - different tuning, I understand. But even on Pure (bypasses the DSP processing) it still sounded a lot fuller. It feels like there are gaps in the Taycan's Burmester range that the MB didn't have - I don't know, I'm not an audio expert and I don't have the MB any more to do A:B comparisons to be more specific about it. When the sound just envelops you and is warm and rich, you know it. The Taycan has 3D too, but that's just part of the experience, the Taycan is missing something in the range/sound that the S550 had.

I still enjoy the Taycan and don't regret the option, but I do miss the MB on some days.

Objectively the Burmester in new-to-me 4S is far worse than the custom one that I got built and installed into my previous EV for under 4k€. This included 3-way set to the front, microphone tuning the main amp/dps to correct the frequency response and a 1kw fully integrated custom 8" sub which could contribute way more that what it looked like. This aftermarket tech has come a long way since I was building cheap shit into my daily 25 years ago.

This stuff integrates into the car like it belonged there these days if your installer is competent enough.

Considering what eye watering prices Porsche wants for the option, if I'd be ordering new J1.2 today, I'd get the cheapest that it comes with and then go build a system with the same builder that did the Model3. Could this approach be an option if looking for sound quality?

That's what I did with my Cayman (although I wouldn't recommend going high end in a sports car, way too loud of a noise floor and you hit diminishing returns quickly on sound quality). The base system in the 981 was hilarious. 4 speakers up front, no carplay. I think it didn't even have bluetooth.

I've heard good things about the MB and Volvo high end audio systems, but no clue on the burmester until now.

It’s not that it could be a good option. It’s actually the best!!

Get yourself a good set of GROUND ZERO speakers or ideally FOCAL UTOPIA.

This is exactly the same audio setup I use across all my cars.

12 channel FOCAL Utopia set. Then 12 channel DSP and the following setup:

Porsche Taycan Burmester sound system option 0EF8BC3E-B95B-4D74-AFCA-DCBA08C302A3

Oh yeah the Utopia stuff is insane.

Not sure if I'm looking to outspend the Burmester cost though... haha

GROUND ZERO is far cheaper than even BOSE and gets you 99% the way to UTOPIA :D

Did you uncheck "linear" in the settings?
It'll give more low and better high.
It's like letting the sound more "loose", way off from "linear dampening", it really ruins the sound (it's on by default, no clue why Porsche did that).

I'm pretty satisfied with Bose not only cuz I think Burmester is way overpriced for what it is.
But then again, sound is like taste, it's very personal.
And like @f1eng said, true Hifi in a car is just ridiculous, even if it says Burmester or any other brand.

For those experiencing rattles from the doors, you may be experiencing the tolerance problem, where the midrange driver is coming into contact with the plastic grille right above the armrest. I had this problem with my Bose system, but it sounds like it can affect Burmester too. There's a TSB about it, which came out right after I had added sound deadening to the first of the front doors on my car. Sure enough, the rattle was still there after I reassembled everything, so when that TSB came out I took the door card out again and added the 1mm thick washers described in the bulletin. Then I treated the other front door. It's so much better now. The distortion when the driver hits the grille is really awful and ruins whatever you're listening to. With the sound deadening I added and this fix, I'd now say the Bose is pretty good. It's not great, but with the rattles gone I don't find myself turning it off in frustration anymore.

The doors come with a little sound dampening from the factory, and it's not poorly installed, but I think putting a midbass driver in the door really called for more.

That is interesting how they issued a TSB for the fronts, because I had the same issue on all 4 doors, and on Burmester. Now Ive done it properly but as someone else menioned on the forum, if using the washer solution which I also did as an initial quick fix, you should also add more gasket material as the gasket is very thin, and sound could bleed into the door panel

Yes. I have about 10K flac files on a USB drive plugged into one of the ports under the armrest. Works great.
