It may not make sense for music to some, but others like the “full sound” you get from some of the digital processing.Music is 2 channel, there is very limited amount recorded in anything else because it makes zero sense.
Atmos is used for movies it is a digital position encoding technology. In home theater settings it often also refers to ceiling or upwards firing speakers.
In the context of the Taycan it only makes sense for movie soundtracks and the ability to play back positionally encoded audio. Not for music.
Others think it sounds too unnatural.
In the end, it’s good we have options to turn it on or off and the driver can pick.
On my last car, I hated the surround mode for music. I prefer it on the Taycan even though on the Bose the mixing isn’t great.
In my home theater, the Atmos receiver made EVERYTHING sound better than my old Dolby pro logic, even with the same speakers before I got the extra height ones.
It’s significantly better at “upscaling” the processing of even 2 channel sources.
