Clipper creek public chargers

When using a public clipper creek charger with my Taycan, it doesn’t seem to like the timer setup. If charging doesn’t start immediatelY, the charging unit keeps clicking on and off. I don’t see the blue flashing light indicating a charge pause, it is white.

Direct charging is ok. Is it safe to leave it charging on direct after it is full with one of these chargers?

it's fine…chargers are not chargers - they are on/off switches - no power flows unless the car allows it to happen - once the target charge % is reached the car tells the EVSE (the charger) to switch off the power flows - which it does - so just because you're plugged in does not mean you're charging the battery - or any power is flowing at all…

you can leave an EV plugged into _ANY_ EV charger (EVSE) for months and it doesn't matter because the power is not flowing…

again EVSE are NOT chargers, they are external power off/off switchs under control of the vehicle - they only start/stop the power flows under the vehicle's command…

Exactly what the above says, level 1 and level 2 chargers are just smart extension cords. They are not directly connected to the battery like a level 3 charger. Power only flows if the car allows it to flow.

If the level 2 public charger is a paid charger, it might not like a timer. If using a public charger that requires any kind of activation (like swiping a card or turning on in an app) I’d just use direct charging instead of timers.

It is perfectly safe to leave the car plugged into a level 1/2 charger forever. You just don’t want to leave the battery at 100% state of charge if you don’t have to. Personally I use direct charging and tell it not to charge past 90%. You could leave a car plugged in with these settings for months on end with no issues. With this setting a charge about once a week.

no, direct charging just means it starts charging as soon as it is plugged in. You can move the slider on the battery on the lower screen or in the app to set the max state of charge.

Your profile doesn't state the model year of your Taycan, but you probably have pre-2025 Taycan (like mine), no slider, direct charging goes to 100% every time (unless you unplug it before 100% is reached).
