I have one major complaint about my Taycan, I hate that the cupholders are noisy. The fingers that grip the cups are noisy, especially if you have a metal cup.

Anyone come up with a solution?

Porsche Taycan Creaky Cupholders - solutions?? 1782686957363-fu

Similar to the solution your neighbors in America came up with for milk. Just like milk bags, you can have water bags, beer bags, cola bags.

Easy peasy

Another solution is to get the 2027 taycan with e-shift, so you don't hear the cuholder creaks over the fake motor noises :D

That's about all of the shit ideas i have short of shoving playdough in the cup holder :D

Reaslitcally, you can maybe try to put some leather tape on the inside of the cuholder, should reduce some of the noise. But it would look very kitch.

You can look for silicone or rubber sleeves that fit your cup.

In my case: Protective Silicone Boot for 12 oz - 40oz Hydroflask Water Bottles Anti-Slip Bottom Stanley Sleeve Cover Bumper - https://amzn.to/4f8CGgb

which fit the YETI Rambler 16 oz Stackable Cup

My son enjoys his bubble tea and after one spill incident with the rear cupholders, it was either banning disposable drinks from the car, or driving the other car.

This combination gives a secure and snug fit for the shallow rear cupholders, so cups don't tip and spill. The YETI cup is essentially a cupholder extension to accommodate the disposable drinks, and it's insulated so to-go drinks stay cold/hot.

I just rotate the cup in the holder to reduce the noise. I actually looked at the problem, it's solvable, but decided it's not worth my time. A brute force solution would be to replace the plastic "fingers" holding the cup with something which won't make noise - say rubber tipped aluminum machined fingers smoothly moving in perfect sync, self centering using silent bearings - I occasionally hobby doing things like this, but I'm not a mechanical engineer, so it would probably take me a 2-3 weekends to get it right, I have better, more interesting (to me) projects on my plate in my free time.

That said, I'm sure there are engineers out there who can be hired to solve this problem, the question is, how much is such a solution worth to you?

Not quite the over-engineered solution I was thinking (essentially a spring loaded self centering precision vice), but porting a cup holder for a luxury car known to be quiet might be go a long way to improve this:

I find just rotating the cup by a few degrees one way or the or the other mostly stops the creaking.

I sprayed a tiny amount of WD-40 silicon lubricant into each of those holes where the plastic things come out of. My issue went away. I only did it to the front cup holder since that's where I put my Yeti. I might do it on the back cup holder.

Interesting... When I've used my Yeti (30 oz. travel mug) I've not had any issue. I assume the cup holders haven't changed in the J1.2.

Wouldn't the thinest felt tape (the kind used for rattles) work on each of the plastic finger? I suppose it might not stay stuck.

Jiggling/rotating the cup is the only sort of temporary solution I’ve found as well. Weak springs and plastic parts seem from somewhere way downstream in the VAG group. German car companies obviously don’t think as much about in car hydration (how necessary it truly is is debatable, I guess)- my wife’s Audi SQ5 has tiny cup holders so can’t fit anything more than a 12 oz soda can, so she had to get an extension holder that then blocks the other cup holder. Then again, weird cup holders are a tradition for Porsche.

We constantly do the rotation thing and it works ok-ish.
Same problems with my wife's Audi.
Never had an issue with my Mercedes, but then it didn't have the stupid grabber feet.
Someone needs to 3D print an insert that presses in the feet and replaces them with a simple rubber ring. Seriously, the cup holders are so small that there's about zero risk of something spilling if it was just in loosely - what were they thinking?

I have to admit, the breast implants or trunk solutions make about as much sense as VWAG's best engineering!
