Is it only powered when the car is on and being driven, or also when parked/locked etc?

However, I was told that Porsche will have their own dashcam solution available "imminently". So at least for a month or two I'm holding off to see what their own solution is.
Based on this I'm inclined to wait to see what Porsche releases before installing an aftermarket dash cam. That said, does anyone have anything concrete regarding such a future release from Porsche? I'll reach out to my contact at my local dealership to ask if they've heard anything about a forthcoming Porsche dash cam.

I spoke to my dealer yesterday and asked for their opinion on having a dashcam installed and how it affected the warranty status. As suspected (and alluded to on this and other threads) they weren't keen on having non-Porsche equipment fitted to the vehicle.

I will be quietly optimistic that Porsche can solve this with software utilizing the cameras that are already on the car, like T* with just some solution on possible battery drain when used for surveillance when parked.
Ohh pretty please  Porsche.

If that's the case I hope it's more functional. I can't stand jacking with that thing on my wife's Model X. Ugh.

Same here, having something integrated and possibly using the built in displays would potentially be a much better experience. Then again, seeing the complaints about the cars software I guess we need to wait and see. :)

I use a 256 GB micro SD into the slot. The camera was installed by the dealer free of charge. It is very clean and records as soon as the car is switched on.

This is a sample me driving:

I have already established that Porsches SW engineers are not up to par with the leading players. (Or perhaps more accurately; the management will now allow them to be. Either way - result is the same for end users).

I went ahead with the Blackvue:
Blackvue DR900X-2CH paired with Power Magic battery (B-112) and LTE module.
Has auto cloud upload on event and remote viewing using phone anytime anywhere.

Visibility (none) from Drivers seat.

99% of the cables are very well hidden. Some spots were so tight that I let the cables be out, instead of potentially damaging them. A professional installer would probably do better, but for me I'm more than happy.

Rear cam - not really blocking the already minimal view.

Battery installed under passenger seat. (Moves with it). Ignore the white USB cable - not a part of the installation.

LTE module placed temporarily on the passengers side lower B pillar. (Yeah yeah it will be nicer later..)

Video is 4k.
On event, LTE upload is Full HD instead of 4K. To get 4K you have to take out the SD card and plug into computer. Not a big hassle and works OK for me.

Overall pleased with this set-up!

Any worries about impact on battery, 12v issues, range,... Really debating this Blackvue set up myself and can't seem to set myself over the worries of getting 12v issues or impact on range. Am I just being stupid?

Negative, negative and negative. It uses it's own separate battery. Being charged while main 12V being charged + 1 hour after. Battery lasts 12-18hours standalone.

Hi @f02kbf – sorry for the disruption.

I am currently looking at installing a dashcam that integrates in with the Taycan mirror like so:

However, I'm struggling to remove the middle (and lower) trim pieces.

In a post a year ago, you wrote:

I've been pressing here on the trim piece:

but I cannot get it to budge! I've really pushed it quiet hard and can see the plastic flex, but there is no movement of any tabs.

I was just wondering based on your experience if I am pushing in the right place?

Does my pic look familiar from your time doing this ? I am wondering if maybe MY21 cars are slightly different and I am doing the wrong thing.

Any insight as you've done it before is very welcome!

Thank you!

Okay, I managed to get the middle bit unclipped - but no matter how much I pull on the final trim piece it will not budge. Its amazingly stuck solid!

Did you manage to get this fitted in the end?
