Apologies if this has already been posted, but every time I search, it directs me to the US forum.

What are the best home chargers for the Taycan? Any suggestions, or did you simply go with Porsche's recommendation, which I believe is Andersen EV?

If you have 220v to 240v power at 40 amps in your home somewhere near where you want to charge your EV, then there are a number of home EV chargers you can use. They all work basically the same. I use a 40 amp EVSE (the device which goes between your house power and your car) which has a timer which allows me to charge from midnight to 8am where I get a 50% discount on electricity. While the Taycan has its own timer, I'm using my EVSEs' timer for both my EVs. In 8 years, I have not had a problem with not enough SOC (state of charge) after a midnight to 8 am charge when using a 240v 40 amp EVSE.

In Europe, I believe there are laws which require all EVs to have the same type of charging plug. In North America, there are at least two types of plugs: most commonly a J1772 (which is on the Taycan) and Tesla NACS. There are adapters which can adapt one to the other. I have both a Taycan and a Tesla and I need to use the adapter when charging my Tesla at home (I've had a 40 amp J1772 EVSE since 2015). In Europe, with one type of plug, you do not need an adapter.

I have an Easee One and it is very simple and convenient. I have it scheduled to only charge at night when I get a cheaper tariff, and it can tell me how much I've spent on charging and how much power it has put out to do that. I have a cable tethered to it for convenience but you don't need to do that. Mine was supplied to me as part of my lease, but I would have been tempted by the Andersen if not. They went in to administration around the time I got my car though, before being bought out, so they were struggling at the beginning of 2023 for some reason.

I hope that helps.

I use the Anderson one. We have 3 phase at home and my Taycan takes the 22kw charge so it’s quite rapid.
Company was easy to deal with, no complaints from me.

The best energy supplier for EVs in UK is Octopus
A recent thread shows people are struggling making Ohme chargers work with Octopus Intelligent so it might be best to avoid them. I have a Podpoint which works perfectly with Taycan and Octopus.
Amusingly Audi paid for the Podpoint and it didnt like communicating with the Audi but was fine with the Taycan.
The big grants for home chargers have gone and unsurprisingly you dont get a free one with a Porsche so it will cost a grand.
There is a cheaper option.
You don't need a home charger at all if you get a 16(?) Amp cable and a blue industrial socket
fitted by an electrician and plug the Porsche home charger that comes with the car in with the blue industrial plug which also comes with the car and it will charge at 7kw per hour (11kw if you have 3 phase) and unsurprisingly the Porsche home charger works very well with a Porsche.

I'm confused. I just use the Porsche charger that came with the car. For the USA, it has a 220 V and 110 V plug that can be swapped. I had a 50 amp circuit installed with a 220 V plug. The unit mounts on the wall with a long charging cord, and I set the charging sequence in the app or the car. I guess I don't understand the reason to buy a separate unit?

You need a 32amp commando/industrial socket for 7kW charging. 16amp will only give you 3.8kW speeds.

However, I have the Myenergi Zappi 7.6kW charger. It’s been faultless and has great cable management. I tend to use the Taycan’s timers and profiles rather than have Octopus Intelligent control the charge.

Yes, of course. That's it! That's what I meant, just forgot! It's why I put the (?) after 16.
32 Amp cable and the commando/industrial socket used with the charger that comes with the car is a lot cheaper option than my Podpoint or your Zappi.
My Pod point was free from Audi but costs a grand even with grants.

However, the Zappi will integrate with my solar PV installation, hides the unsightly charge cable and stops me tripping over it.

You will also need to spend circa £200 to have a 32amp commando socket installed. My Zappi cost £750 all-in.

Octopus is not necessarily the best. Ovo charge anytime tariff is very competitive. Does not increase your day time rate at all, and all your car charging is at 7p per KWh, any time of the day, for unlimited times. If you’re not a high mileage driver, and don’t want to set all your washers, tumble dryers etc for overnight, then it can work out much cheaper than octopus.

I too love Zappi which comes out tops in many reviews. Combined with intelligent octopus works brilliantly

Just use the one that came with the car and no particular reason to purchase another.

Remember these aren't chargers just a means to supply electricity to the car which is where the actual charger is.

If you have a particular need for an outside installation either of the Porsche EVSEs (PMCC or PMC+) would be ok but perhaps need some shelter. The Andersen unit is the most aesthetically pleasing EVSE IMHO.

If you can get your electricity from OVO and have a smart meter in place then pursue this option and use their Charge Anytime app to manage charging sessions (£0.07 / kW). OVO can talk directly to the Taycan PCM via the app which makes this an ideal solution (also independent of which EVSE you use).

+1 for Zappi. Nicely integrates to Solar and my hot water diverter and I have Octopus Intelligent integrated with it (not the Taycan - find it works SO much better this way).
