I’ve only done a few long trips with my Taycan and found using the Porsche dealer fast chargers charge you more than the IONITY,
I would only go in if really needed

if I was you I would stick to IONITY it’s fast convenient and cheaper , some are plug and charge where you don’t need the Card & some need to tap your Porsche charging card to get started
If you use your card you will get the cheaper 30p per KW rate

Hi, DOnt quite understand how charging works at the UK main dealers. On zap map it implies there's a 85p per kw charge via shell but then another price of 31p per kW with a separate fee per minute which seems most odd.

I'm new to the Taycan. Does Porsche have ionity access?
Only charge at OPC's if you can't charge at home or no Ionity station that you can use. I have just had my Sept charging bill from OPC (just once at Theale) - 0.2584p for Energy and 0.3667p for "service". When I have challenged Porsche about this, their only "defence" is to try and stop people parking at chargers and not using them............ They could easily get round this by giving users 30mins (say) if being used and then billing them for effectively parking. But then again Porsche don't care how they take money off us. BTW - you can use the charge card on any car (we also have a Polestar) at any OPR or Ionity station.

Exactly - the easiest way would be to do the first 30 mins free of charge and start the per-minute charging from minute 31. That would then encourage people to top up and go

With many Porsche dealers being on industrial estates I wonder where they think people would be going once parked there?

YES. The card is not ‘smart’. The charger does not have to recognise the Taycan linked to the card. I have charged my Audi Etron at Ionity, Shell and Total in France using the Porsche Charging card. You get the 30p discounted rate at Ionity using the card with ANY car.
Apparently you don’t need the card just access via the My Porsche app.

I charge my Taycan mostly at home, but on a run down to Devon stopped near Exeter and charged up, did the same for the return journey. Very fast, no queue, cup of coffee and toasted sandwich and we got back to the car as it was ticking over to 100%, both times. Way cheaper than all the rest.
However not cheaper than home. 60kw hydro in the garden???

Given OPC Theale is next to IKEA that is more than enough reason to charge up and go as quickly as you can :)

Thought so - if you want to move a dialogue offline, let me know and I can give you my mobile/email. As I was driving away from Theale, I realised that I should have given you a contact for me as a 2 year Taycan veteran, I could maybe help with your initiation ..........

Use Ionity and Tesla Open for all on road trips. They only charge for kWh charged and not that time element. Avoid the likes of Shell Recharge in the UK! Super expensive.

Well, at my local centre, they are frequently parked in/unavailable - by cayennes, 911s and a renault clio parked there by the staff.

Ah yes welcome to rip-off GB, where the average price ultra-fast charging is near enough 75 to 80p.

Hello Gridserve (69p), Shell Recharge (86p), InstaVolt (75p), Mer (78p), Osprey (79p), BP Pulse (79p) etc etc.

The only non-scammy buggers are Tesla and Ionity via Porsche Charging Service

Osprey whacked up pricing and then dropped them slightly when people were up in arms and they got government subsidy on the electricity rates.

For me the council lamp post charging companies are the worst.. they used to be 28p kwh but then put this up to 58p (7kwh) nobody uses them and the council have subsidised the costs for the company (surecharge?) they have now dropped to 45pkwh at weekends and 48pkwh weekdays - still too much imo given we pay through the council tax.

Shame as i have one outside my door!

The infrastructure and investment costs of ultrafast / HPC charging I can get my head around. Civils costs, planning and building take time and money. Big MW scale grid connections aren’t cheap or easy to put in, charge units that can cost up to £100K a pop take time to amortise

…. but AC charging?? Virtually nil capital cost in comparison and the charges are as you point out in many cases just obscene.
