A and B for me.

I have always wanted a Porsche, and had also decided my next car would be electric.

Initially loved the Taycan, but the price was a bit too punchy for what I was willing to spend on a car. Was thinking may hold out for an electric Macan or something.

Then the RWD was announced, did a bit of maths (Inc fuel etc) and realised its attainable.

Test drove one and absolutely sold. It just feels like the future.

Pick up on Monday morning.

A, at least mostly.

We were looking for a car for my mother. We went to the Nissan dealer first to look at a Leaf, which we felt would be the best fit for her (the most traditional EV). But the one and only sales guy who knew anything about the Leaf was busy. After being left to cool our heels for a few minutes we got mad and left. Figured just for giggles we'd call the Porsche dealer and see if they had any Taycans. They said they did, and they'd be happy to let us go for a test drive. When we showed up they just pulled it around, handed us the keys, and said, "You know the area, have fun and let me know what you think."

And here I am, so I suppose it's obvious what I thought.

Mostly A but also B.
Was looking around for a new car to replace my M2 within 1-2 years.
I knew about the Taycan and was crazy about its looks. Went to a PC, made a test drive and I was sold. Within 2 months following the test drive, I ordered my Taycan. Sold my M2 1,5 years earlier than planned ??

Z. Was waiting for the Audi E-Tron RS, read reviews of the Taycan, got it, then stopped wanting the Audi...

I wanted an EV, but also had had a Porsche 911 that I missed badly. Thus, the Taycan was the obvious choice for me. No regrets whatsoever.

Wanted an EV, drove a Taycan, bought it. Still haven’t second guessed it.

.......because :

A. You were looking for a new Electric car and found the Taycan?

B. You were looking for a new Porsche and found the Taycan?

C. Both

D. Neither.... or I can't remember....or I don't understand the question.

Maybe should do a poll, but just for general interest.
Was looking for a 911 and the salesman talked me into test driving the TT. It was love at first drive.

None of the aforementioned reasons actually. Haven’t gotten the Taycan 4S in my hands yet but it’s been ordered. Here’s what caused us to jump on a Taycan….

(1) Wife still drives her college jalopy and that fine faithful thing (2005 Honda Civic with paint peeling off) sits on our driveway distracting visitors from the other fancy cars lounging around in our neighborhood (including a couple of Taycans now). Hence, she has been unfairly accusing me of being a skinflint miser scrooge for the last few years.

(2) Wife was a day 1 reservation holder for the Tesla Model 3. Gets invited to a test drive event at Tesla HQ in Palo Alto. She drives, some sales chump sits next to her waxing eloquent on the Tesla revolution, I meekly sit at the back. Sales C. goads Wife into trying the super awesome AutoPilot while cruising up I-280N. Wife hesitates but decides WTH YOLO. Activates AutoPilot, Model 3 steering gives its customary jerk to center itself when AP kicks in and Wife loses her shit and swerves the steering wheel violently. Interior B-pillar panel detaches and falls on my head, Sales C.shits his pants and Wife wisely decides to end the test drive and head back to base. Back at base, poor sales chump jumps out of the car as soon as we stop and starts running away….never to be seen again. I check the Model 3’s release notes - it’s barely a week old car.??‍♂

(3) In my past life, my team landed a Taycan design win for one of the interior features (it’s curved and you ogle at it while driving) and I was kinda aware of its sexy production look a bit before the general riffraff. Revenue-wise it was not much to write home about but it was the closest I have ever seen a production car come near its concept in terms of exterior design. So, I always had it in the back of my mind. Hence, after (2), I politely suggested to Wife that perhaps the Taycan was a better option than a Tesla. Wife naturally didn’t listen to patriarchal wisdom at first (she comes from what traditionally used to be a matriarchal society) and insisted on checking out the Model S sitting on display at Tesla HQ. Nary a word was uttered, I marched the woman to the car, sat her inside, pointed out an errant piece of trim hanging loose and asked her to pinch-zoom the Google Maps displayed on the center screen with 3 fingers (don’t know if they ever fixed it - perhaps someone can try, there’s interesting history behind it best left for f2f gossip). And showed her the release notes - that car had rolled out of the factory 5 days ago.

Wife transferred the deposit for her Model 3 to the Taycan that very day. And here we are….

Had a 911 and an old BMW estate for the dog. With lockdown I never seemed to be using the 911 and the estate was getting old so wanted one car to replace both. I also wanted an EV so it had to be the Taycan CT or an MG.

Had a Panny Hybrid and really just wanted a new one but then I test drove the Taycan. Placed an order a few weeks later.

Taycan replaced a 911 that spent most time sitting in the garage or in the shop (because I had been sitting in the garage for too long). 98% of the time the Taycan just makes more sense, and I think a modestly equipped RWD with fed tax credit is a bit of a bargain.

B/D. I was infatuated with this car since the Mission E concept. Now that I have it, I'm enjoying the benefits of it being electric and finding the drawbacks to be quite small. The electronics are gimpy as hell but I give it the two-finger salute every few weeks to beat it back into shape. This morning I had no map in the binnacle (and that's my favorite view). Gave it the salute ... presto, fixed.

B for me. Was actually looking for a new Panamera hybrid, but very few in Australia and none available to test drive or actually see.
Was really worried going fully electric would be problematic but as a DD have had no issues. Was treated very well by the dealer in terms of trade in and model for model Taycan about A$100k cheaper to buy!

Squarely C. Timing of everything really came together. :)
