Twice in the past 2 weeks, I have had miles disappear right after charging at an EA charger. Examples: miles shown when finished charging were 260 , and after driving less than a 1/4 mile, it dropped to 200 miles. Next time it happened, I lost 47 miles. Has anyone else had this happen?
Using ultrafast EVSEs heats up the battery significantly (and faster).

In my experience using similar EVSEs always leads to an artificially high estimated battery range but as soon as you start driving the range drops within a short distance.

In your case the drop off is quite significant but I'd be interested to know what range you actually achieve. Total Trip will provide an average consumption figure which can then be used to calculate more accurately what your typical range is.

I will check that out Winge, but since I did most legs from charger to charger, not one end point, not sure how helpful those figs will be. I do know they ranged from 3.0 miles per kw to as high as 5 at one time. (that was probably going downhill lol).
Your advice about battery temps may be right too. But ultrafast? Nope. Most times I had to settle for a 150KW charger which would pump out under 100kw, while the 350s that usually give me 270 or so, pushed out about 130kw max. Always made sure battery preheated to minimum of 95, but usually got up as high as 114 degrees quickly.

Ultrafast incorporates 150kW EVSEs but essentially the same scenario - rapid heat up to reduce charging time.

5 mi / kWh - you must have been going downhill vertically (most impressive!).

3 mi / kWh is pretty good but 3.3+ will see around 280 miles with PB+.

As you know all of this could be in vain and it is the goofy guessometer software which bounces around until it settles to blame given the considerable variances you saw. Overall though with the consumption reported you are still getting 259+ miles range.

If i remember right, much of it was going downhill on one of those winding mountain roads in Arizona where you just cannot resist doing a slalom, and leaving all the traffic behind.

Color me confused.. is the problem that the drop is significant, or that there is a drop? For a smart navigation device/software, it'd be expected to adjust the range based on destination/route, no?
You’re correct. The range (intelligently) is adjusting based on the anticipated driving behavior. The extra data point that you’re about to embark on a 70-75mph highway trip with no regen lops off 25% of your range immediately.

It’s jarring, but more practical than the traditional vehicle that will update mileage in small increments over the course of the trip.
