Pick the car up on Tuesday so haven’t familiarised myself with everything yet, so forgive me if this is a silly question.

Do I need to purchase the data package to get the satellite view on the navigation system and Apple Music through the PCM?
Is there anything else that won’t work without it?

in the U.K. the data package is £19 a month & capped at 7gb, which is steep. With no physical sim to swap is there an alternative to run your own data contract? I ask because in the excellent thread I read on here about the collection checklist it mentions:
Where to find SIM information. This will be necessary to add the car to your mobile provider (eventually)”

Thanks.
Only 3 more sleeps. :)

The only reason to take the data package is if you wanted to use the WiFi hotspot in the car to provide data for you or your passengers. Data for Nav/Apple Music/updates etc is provided "Free". I don't believe there is any option to use an alternative data contract.

Hope you are enjoying the car!

Thanks Steve.
I could only get google map view to work with a subscription to the data package. My CarPlay wasn’t connecting to the internet neither without a subscription, but I assume I may have set my phone up incorrectly.
Other than that car is amazing & I'm really enjoying it. Thanks.

CarPlay does not need any kind of subscription.

These functions you are describing are not related to the Data Package you have ordered. CarPlay works on your phones data package so check the settings on your phone. Have you used Google Maps or Waze on it before?

Google Map view in the cars navigation is a function of the PCM and its communication. Have you seen the LTE or 3G symbol on the PCM screen?

The U.K. has very bad coverage of LTE in many places so look at the status of cellular signal on the PCM.

I’m pretty switched on, so I’m more than sure it’s how I’ve set things up between my phone and the car.

Carplay worked, however no online services worked. I.e Spotify just hung so I assume no data (I’m on wireless carplay by the way).

I have linked the phones WiFi to the cars 5g hotspot (this happened automatically when I scanned the QR code on the PCM). So my logic is unless there is paid for data and I’m linked to the 5g hotspot then that could be the source of the blockage.

I’m sure I can reverse this so the car uses the phones hotspot instead but as of yet haven’t really fiddled.
Google map layers didn’t work on the nav until I activated the data package. This could be coincidence but I assume it’s all linked.
What I need to get my head around is whether Google map layers will continue to work in the Nav if I start using the phones data to run carplay.

I haven’t set the data package to auto-renew so I’ll try to reverse this in a few weeks when my sub expires.

Thanks for the response. I’ll keep you informed on what I find.

You just need to disconnect the phone from the car’s hotspot. The way you have it set up, the phone is trying to get on the internet through the car. You want to use your phone’s data connection. The car doesn’t need to connect to the internet for CarPlay to work. Everything is on the phone.

Yes you are correct because I did the same thing. You need to disconnect from the car wifi.. Use your phones data connection. It took me a while to figure it out.. But since I did this it's worked OK.

There is also the option to set the WiFi connection from the phone, so that it does not try to get any internet connection. You can then have your phone to sync the calendar with the car, as well as get data exchange with the connect app. This way you do not need to disconnect from the cars hotspot.

The phone will connect to the internet via the cellular network in such a case.

Thanks guys.

I figured that was the case but hadn’t tried to do that yet as I have the balance of 7gb to burn through, lol.

I have insulated glass so need to make sure my phone will still connect if left in my pocket, buts that another thing to trial.

Does Google map layers still work if using the phone for data? I won’t be able to try until the data runs out or the month elapses.

Appreciate the advice.

I've got the Google maps without the Porsche data package, I use my phone data only, so I assume yes it does..

It was in the settings once I had my phone connected to the cars WiFi. I am not close to my car just now and can not remember the details. Will have a look tomorrow and come back. I have an iPhone though and can only describe it for iPhone.
