From Taycan Turbo to Tesla Model S...

Why give up a perfectly good Taycan, one you love to drive? With used EV prices deep in a slump, why not ADD another "more appropriate" vehicle to your stable? I just picked up a lightly used BMW iX SUV, with two years left in warranty, for 55% of its sticker price. You could drive such a "proper for the [family] mission" vehicle (mid-size SUV EV) for a few years while the kiddies grow up. Then sell it, along with the ketchup stains, spilled Slurpies, crayon marks, etc. Oh, and about those impressionable customers. Just make sure your after-sale service matches your curb appeal! Good luck.

You can't seriously compare a 100D with a Turbo S CT.
It's the most efficient Model S and the least efficient Taycan (been there, done that).
Also the Model S has more net capacity available.

I travel quicker with the Taycan here in Germany than I do with my Tesla. The crucial point is charging speed, which is a lot faster.

Depends on how many high power charging stations you have and that's not many here and most of those (looking at you Ionity Cambridge) aren't close to high power

Why not compare? That was the OPs question and more to the point similar pricing and performance. ?‍

Like I said, one's a great EV and one's a great car.

Hey folks...

I'm looking for some opinions from you folks. I hesitate to post this as I know folks have strong opinions on Tesla, Elon etc. Be gentle

Earlier this year I was considering a Tesla Model S or a Taycan. I ultimately chose a used, 2020 Taycan Turbo. It's well optioned, has InnoDrive, full Olea leather, Sport Chrono, full PPF etc.

I've had the car for about a year - and some of the wrinkles of the vehicle are grating on me. Some issues I'm facing:

1.) Interior space is very limited. For a car with the same dimensions as a Mazda CX-9, that weighs as much as our GMC Yukon...it's surprisingly cramped. This isn't an issue on it's own...but leads to a couple of my other frustrations...

2.) We have two young children, both requiring rear facing car seats. I can't fit two rear facing car seats in the back seat. I can fit one behind the passenger seat, but one won't fit behind me. Additionally, nobody over about 5'5 can sit in the passenger seat due to how far up the seat has to be to fit the rear facing car seat. It's also really cramped to get my son in/out of the seat.

3.) I can barely fit the stroller in the trunk. It's deep but very low in terms of height. It usually requires me to disconnect and try to origami the thing in the car 3 or 4 times before it fits.

4.) My golf clubs hardly fit in the trunk without folding a seat down.

5.) The B-pillar encroaches so far into the driver door opening that getting in and out is pretty awkward (I'm tall, 6'4").

6.) Current battery recall on 2020-2024 Taycans. Porsche is monitoring the battery health OTA and will let owners know if they need to bring their cars in for cell replacement. Not confidence inspiring.


7.) I'm in outside sales, and I've had a couple awkward moments pulling up in a $160k car to a prospects business. Just more flashy than is ideal.

8.) I've learned I really like solid tech - and it's clear that Tesla brings that to the table.

I've test driven a 2023 Model S before. I liked it a lot - but ultimately chose the Taycan for fun factor and prestige. What I've learned is that the car isn't quite as practical as I thought - and it seems to priortize some of the things that aren't critical to me (driving dynamics, speed) and leave behind some things that are (space, technology).

All that said - I'm a little nervous I might take for granted some of the refinement and luxury of the Taycan.

Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on going from a Porsche to a Tesla?

Seems like things that should have been considered and easily tested prior to buying the car.. That said, I wouldn't have even considered a Taycan if baby seats, strollers, and overall interior practicality were top concerns..

Telsa wins hands down with tech, but people typically buy Porsches for the driving experience with tech being pretty far down the list.

I "have" both. The Taycan Turbo CT is mine (a fat 911), the Model S is what shows up when I call a taxi or Uber.

I've gone from a Tesla Model 3 LR to a Taycan Turbo S. Tesla tech is superior no doubt (even in the model 3 which has better tech than the S), the supercharging network is a bonus but it's not a driver's car. I drove a model S for about a week, wasn't impressed with the handling, build quality or finish. I have never had an issue with Tesla software in any Tesla cars I have owned or driven.

The Taycan is a completely different beast, luxury, driving dynamics, it's a much, much better car. Not had an issue with the tech, but they are a long way away from matching Tesla and the camera's are shocking even in comparison to cars that cast 50% less. But small price to pay! I have not had an issue finding high speed chargers in the UK but they never give you the advertised speed, think the most I've seen is 105kw, but they all work.

As others have suggested, keep the Taycan and get an more unassuming SUV for your family needs, good luck in your search!

Sounds like you have the wrong car for your needs - you will certainly miss some features from taycan but seems like another car that fills the deficits would equalize the situation a bit. On another note, I wanted to throw up when I ordered my Taycan as part of me was embarrassed to drive it around family clients etc - after much introspection I can give 2 shits about what other people think , I might buy one in every color , it’s other people’s problem , not mine , I’ve learned to not let other people dictate the way I will feel about my belongings or success ?

I come from Tesla Model S.
MS 75 2017.5 and then MS Raven 2020.5
Like the Teslas. Chose between Taycan 4s 2022 and MS Palladium LR 2023. Go for the Taycan, It was so god so Ingo up to Turbo 2020. What a car. So nice to drive. Handling is extremely good, but as you mention. Can confirm Tesla is more spacious. With small child and childseats the Tesla is better. Ive never sold my MS if I stillebhave had small child.

Unfortunately, human nature is what it is. When you are in sales, your compensation is directly tied to your ability to produce revenue. If my vehicle is in any way shape or form an obstacle to that objective, that’s an issue for me.

I think it depends on what lens you look through , I’m not sure what your selling but personally I’d be more inclined to buy from someone who’s driving a luxury car than a Prius, and I think people will judge you more for driving a car associated with one of the most hated men. At the end of the day you should drive what u feel comfortable driving, GLW your decision and keep us posted ?

I was in your situation and decided for the CT. Choice never regretted in terms of usability. 2 kids at the back 3 and 6 years old. The little one has a rotating car seat so no problem with bulky item and to fit him in. It Doesn’t affect my space when on the front passenger seat ( I am 5’9”). 6 years old has a very good and compact seat which doesn’t affect any movement in and out. They were 2 and 4 when I got the car and we could fit 2 strollers one of which very bulky. All under the parce shelf!

Maybe just adjust your expectations around the car. I have a three year old and an infant. This car has plenty of room. For one you don’t need these gigantic strollers and car seats that swivel. Get either a pair of yo yo 2 strollers and normal car seats. The other option is a Donna car seat/stroller combo and one yo yo2. The stroller easily fits in the frunk and leaves you the entire trunk. I’m 6’-1” and have no problem with this set up. If you have five people no this car won’t work but four easily works. People forget how small cars used to be the Taycan is still a giant car if you compare it to 80’s and 90’s cars.

Good point there. However for the enormous size of the Taycan, interior room is comparable if not smaller to a Ford focus. With less boot and headroom.
