Front license plate?

Worst case you could buy the license plate Taycan tow hook mount and leave it in the frunk. If you get pulled over you can tell the officer you forgot to install it in the tow hook mount and offer to install it right then if that would be ok so you can avoid a fixit ticket.
Then when you get home just put it back in the frunk…
I’m sure if you’re a pretty blond the officer will only want your number and won’t write you a ticket… For the rest of us it’s probably best to use the wrap version even if it’s not approved in DC yet since technically you can say you do have a plate in the front. The officer would have to be really looking to be unreasonable to still right you a fixit ticket.

I live in the DC area and have the stonsho. I never have it on and if I get stopped I have it in the frunk and just say “sorry officer, I was just washing my car and forgot to put it back on.” Never had a problem with clearance or driving without it Installed.

I love the “I just washed my car & forgot yo put it back on” but your needs to be clean when you use that excuse…

Tow hook mount works. You just need to rotate it so it sits above the parking sensor. I have it ready in the trunk.

I've been making my own decals for over a decade on my cars, including the Taycan. I even had some conversations with cops about it, none saw a problem with it. One even told me that since it is legal where I live to cover a parked car on the street and hand write the license plate on the cover, so he can't see how this would be much different (world's smallest car cover? ).

Just change the excuse to, As you can see officer, my car is horribly dirty, so I am preparing to wash it ASAP.

So I was talking about this at the collision center with the tech who as reattaching my StoNSho: he always drives without a front license plate!
But in CT (the location of the collision center), a front license plate violation is not grounds for a traffic stop, even though it can be an additional violation if pulled over for something else.
(I suppose that means a plate-obsessed cop could pull over a car for something like 1mph over the speed limit or not a truly full stop at an intersection, but realistically, that is definitely sending a strong message not to pull over cars for lacking a front plate.)

We starting talking about many of the issues in this thread, and he added a 911 in the collision center has a carbon fiber license plate.
He was baffled at the existence of such a plate!
I coulda sworn I found the supplier while searching on my phone yesterday.
But today all I can find are a few places with disclaimers for show & off-road only.
(Plus of course license plate frames.)

That’s why I’m waiting for my first fixit ticket in Southern California where no one or very few will put a front plate on a luxury car…
At least I have the option to get the California street legal plate wrap but before I commit to that I’ll get the tow hook mount and use the “my wife just washed my car and forgot to put it back.” But if it’s a female cop I’ll say “I forgot to put it back” rather than blame my wife…

+1 on the Sto ’n Show.

One thing to bear in mind is that because it mounts on the underside of the car, it does reduce your clearance over front curbs when parking etc. by 15 mm or so.

Had the Sto n Sho and it is good. Per your comment, I had to uninstall and reinstall. I must have parked too close to the curb and it squished fhe holes such that the plate couldn’t be pushed in. Had to use some pliers to widen the holes again.

When I first got to Texas I got pulled over all the time for not having a front license plate on my 95 Camry ; I had to eventually put it on my dashboard. I then got a Hyundai Tucson from Oklahoma and also had to do the same thing, and then again with a Honda Accord. Then I purchased my first luxury car a Porsche Panamera, I just knew the cops would harass me so I kept the license plate in the car. But the harassment never came and I never got pulled over. Then I got a Etron GT…never got pulled over. It’s been seven years now since the Panamera, I now have a Taycan 4s and I’m not even sure where the front license plate is. It might be different in DC; but if it happens to be your first really nice car….just drive around for a bit see what happens lol

I have a front plate. I didn't at first. I live in a Chicago suburb where the front plate isn't required. But the first time I drove downtown, literally less than five minutes after leaving the highway, I was stopped by a cop who let me go with a warning. I wasn't concerned about the ticket...but I could live without sitting around for 15 minutes while the cop did lord knows what. Something similar happened on New Year's Eve, of all times, because my registration sticker had apparently fallen off my rear plate. I guess with so little crime to worry about, the Chicago police have lots of time on their hands to strictly enforce the traffic laws. Hence the decision to install the front plate.

I've been running P-cars for 25 years in Florida, NJ, NY, and California. I have never had a front plate (to ruin the front end design) and never been tagged or cited. Agree with @DerekS please fine me. The odds seem to be in my favor. (If I get a ticket today I'll let everyone know.)

I haven't tried using the tow hoot mounts on the Taycan, but have used these on Cayennes in the past and did run into some issues. I used this https://stonsho.com/collections/taycan on mine and highly recommend it.

I had the StoneSho. I guess MT CT was too low and the Sho ripped off at the center rivets somewhere and I lost my plate and the bracket. The bracket was still intact where it screws to the lower lip of the bumper. I am switching to the tow hook option. I live a rural area and the roads are rough and dicey most of the time. The Sho is a nice design, just be aware the the bracket sits below the lip of the bumper.
