Hi everyone,

I'll be gone for a week and I'm not sure if I should let my Taycan plugged in or not during this time.

I had assumed leaving it charged but unplugged would be completely fine but I heard some horror stories about the 12V battery dying quickly when the car is idle.

Thanks for your recommendations!

I’m sure it isn’t supposed to die after a week. As it happens I left mine for a week without charging and it was absolutely fine. I’m sure it can go much much longer if required.

This was a reported problem prior to the major software updates (WMA5/6) that we have all endured.

You'd need to check but I think one of the fixes bundled was the possible 12V drain issue so ensure you at least have all current updates / recalls applied.

It was never the case that the 12V battery drained when idle (i.e. car sitting doing nothing and not connected to an EVSE) - the issue was when connected (potentially) or the PLC parameter was set incorrectly and for other reasons.

I've not (nor would I) leave my car connected when unattended for more than 24 hours but that's just me. I can't see a reason why you would need to do that - charge before you leave if you need to and then unplug wouldn't be a big ask I think.

I regularly leave my car for a month or longer without keeping it on the main EVSE or on a trickle charger. The main battery only loses 1% SoC per month and the AMB5 software update seems to have taken care of the 12V battery problems.

I'll just give another data point, I used to leave mine plugged in and set to a minimum charge of 40%. I have left it for as long as almost 3 months with no issues.

setting to a minimum is the opposite, it is actually the maximum.
my home profile is set to 80% minimum.
that said like others have noted a week or two unplugged at an SOC of over 25% or so will result in minimal range loss.
one thing that people do and shouldn't is to ping the car while away, pinging the car wakes the car up and can cause some battery drain

Per Porsche manual, leave it plugged in and keep the SOC around 50%.

Yes, it is indeed best to keep it plugged in. Then it can use power of the mains to keep the battery in good shape.

For comparison: A Taycan uses about 1% battery per month. My Tesla model X used 20% per week !
I had to make sure it was well charged before parking it at the airport !

I wouldn’t do that. When my car is at the airport for days, i leave on the parking lot. No chargers there. It’s fine.

it’s semantics but the profile is the minimum charge, if car is below that it will charge to that level. The “maximum” is set in the departure schedule which is the same as the target.

Actually there are 6 or 8 chargers at Zaventem airport even free if you order the P card. If not it is charged per minute so less interesting.

I used the VIP park a lot and they also have chargers and can charge your car and disconnected it. Unfortunately it is closed now.

Edit: just checked. Even a lot more now. Don’t know where they are all located.

VIP is just a bit more expensive than lock, it is right in front of the entrance and they get your car on arrival. Unfortunately it is closed now.
