Can only go on experience and after my last 3 Porsches two Taycans and a 2021 911 Turbo without any doubt they have been the most unreliable cars I have had the misfortune to own since a 1986 MG Montego ??? I would prefer a Dacia Duster than ever owing another Porsche ???

I have a question for the group. For the folks that have had their heater go out, were you using the HVAC system in normal mode or in eco mode? I wonder if that makes a difference. In reading the different threads it seems the units or something in them are overheating and failing when it is really cold or a lot of heat is needed. I have a 2022 CT4 with about 16K miles and run mine in eco mode 100% of the time and fingers crossed, no issues yet. I think it reduces the output of the heater unit, so maybe that helps.
just thought I would throw that out there to see if other are doing the same.

Mine has been in eco mode the whole time. In NorCal we haven't needed the heating much though (and the cooling is working just fine). Don't really know when it failed, just that the first time we wanted heat from it this winter, mid-December timeframe, it didn't deliver any (and it was working fine back at the start of 2022).

My service advisor said it was a valve unit that had failed, so I wonder whether it gets stuck if not used. Would have been at least 9 months since it needed to be in heat mode.

Good news is that the part finally arrived, and I am dropping the car off next week for them to fix it (and look at the turn signal / parking light that reported as defective too). Only took about 3 months to get the replacement part

#1 and #2 above, oh horrors…. Those are nothing issues.
#3 is a valid issue, but shit happens. You bought a first generation of an entirely ground up new platform. There will be issues. And there will be supply chain problems during a period including a ww pandemic and a major war. There are far more important supply challenges in the world right now than the heater cores of our $150,000 luxury cars.

After 2 months the dealer called me to tell me that my replacement heater arrived - they really know how to put you out their in the cold

My 4S went into my local OPC (Sheffield) 10 days ago - just been told the new heating part has arrived and should be ready by Fri. So I guess I’m lucky in only driving the Merc diesel taxi hire car (1st world problem I know) for 2 weeks. Just hope that no subsequent problems arise …..
My wife has a Polestar 2 and it’s never missed a beat - good that the most prestigious German car company is losing out to an upstart Swedish-Chinese company.

In fairness to JLR, it does rate top for one thing - being easy to nick.

Indeed!

Tesla redesigned their HV heater (including the associated tech - to simplify) as they experienced issues too. Easier for Tesla to do this as turnkey operation which as we know Porsche is not. Audi going through similar pains with the Q4 (new heater design).

Regularly see broken down Range Rovers, Discoveries etc .... plus no full EV on the road yet but it is coming.

At the end of the day this isn't a Porsche reliability issue per se more the QC of their suppliers (some of which are global brands in their own right) due to supply chain weaknesses.

Without going through 14 pages of this thread, could someone help me answer my questions? My heater just kept blowing cold air this morning.

1) Can I still drive the car if the heater is broken? I'm not sure if the heater is required to warm the battery.

2) Is there a new improved heater that I should ask the dealer for? Or will they just replace with the same heater that may break down again?

3) I didn't see any warning messages. Is that normal? But I turned the heat up to 30 celsius and nothing.

I will call the dealer now.

1) HV heater is for both cabin a battery. Should not be used long term is my understanding

2) I was told by the dealer 3 weeks ago that it will need to come back in once they have a newly designed part

3) in your car PCM will show an error message when you try to program preconditioning. Not a specific error message at start up however.

Mine is in today, after almost 3 months waiting for the part. They're also going to look at the turn signal / parking light that is reporting as defective (and only intermittently working now), and do the 2 year service ($750+tax for changing coolant and washer fluid, flushing the brake fluid and changing the cabin air filter).

1. Not ideal to drive without as you have no means to demist the car.

2. You don't have a choice. Dealer will replace as per spec.

3. No warning at all. Amazing in a car with so much tech and misses some basic ones.

If my windshield doesn’t fog up, is it safe to drive the car? Or do you mean that I just have to keep the car parked for months until the heater part comes in?
