I totally feel this. Tesla definitely is best at quality of life features. But the Taycan wins on performance, materials, and build quality. If only the two were combined, we'd have the perfect EV.
If nothing else, I hope Porsche would implement walk away locking.
I am increasingly disappointed in the things Porsche is not good at.

- The PCM. My wife and I just chuckle when we can't play the radio for whatever reason, now.
- Software. All of it.
- Navigation and charging planner. Why won't it route me around traffic? It sees it as red on the map!
- Charging network. Electrocute America is just not cutting it.
- Recalls.
- Software updates. It is straight insane to have to go to the dealer to get a software update.

I could go on.

Porsche does a great job with the car experience, but has always been bad at tech...and unfortunately EVs are all about tech.

The PCM is not... the worst. I tried the infotainment on a 2021 Kia EV and my in-law's Lexus. They are definitely way worse. For the Taycan, I do use Android Auto. I'm not sure if that is considered cheating.

It really isn't. Audi software is overall worse as far as user experience, coming from same parent company (they do have one thing on Taycan, they let you close the trunk with the fob - not a double click like it should be, but at least you can hold it to close, you can't do that on a Taycan which is also afraid of its own shadow and lots of times just stops shutting the trunk for no reason). However, compared to a Tesla, traditional auto makers products are way behind, saddled with legacy notions like needing an ignition switch, or needing the "engine running" to start A/C.

Carplay is my fallback too when the PCM is uncooperative.

I wonder what's stopping them from putting out an update to feature walk-away lock and Remote close trunk?

Their process, which requires a lot of analysis and validation before releasing an update. This makes sense if updating each car costs you hundreds of dollars to pay the dealer to re-flash the car. Tesla doesn't have this problem, they can do minimal validation, roll it out, then if there are issues, they roll out a fix the next day if needed. This is further complicated for Porsche by complex relationships with suppliers (e.g. Porsche does not control all the firmware in the car, different ECU software is written by different companies) - Tesla is vertically integrated, pretty much all the software is controller by Tesla.

Thanks. That makes sense now. It's not as easy as adding a button on the app.

Not for me, actually. Almost everything people complain about on the Taycan or praise on the Tesla are things I didn't have, or have no strong inclination to use, on my previous cars.

The last tech I was delighted by was central locking and I was, and am, quite happy to use a key to unlock the driver's door and have the others unlock. The key on my 1991 Mercedes is a much smaller lump in my pocket than the subsequent electronic keys, which are nice but really nothing I could get excited or enthusiastic about.

All I need is to be able to get in and drive. I can do this in the Taycan and it is the nicest car to drive that I own, most of the time.

I do use a few PCM features but can't think of any I'd miss if they weren't there.

:)

Or phone as key.
A small note on Tesla and phone-as-key. With 2 phones, Teslas get confused, which is not surprising since the car obviously cannot read people's minds, with 2 people in the car, it picks whichever phone was in range first. Worse however, sometimes it locks onto that first phone and will not connect to the second one, leaving someone trying to open the car while the car will not unlock because the first key moved away too far. Additionally, phone-as-key doesn't always work either. My parents loved the feature on they Model Y until a few times the car got so confused that neither of their phones worked as a key (so had to use a key-card backup). They got the fob instead after Tesla insisted they needed to factory reset their phones for the second time to make it work - way too much hassle for an average user. Old school tech seems to work more reliably. Probably also has something to do with the fact that using the Fob, it's an end-to-end vertically integrated Tesla tech, when using the phone, there is non-Tesla tech in the chain (phone and its OS) which Tesla does not control, so things break more often.

So personally, I'll stick with a fob for my cars, as the more reliable, less hassle solution.

I have not yet experienced the new M3 suspension, but the older M3's base suspension was undrivable to me. It reminded me of my '82 mustang with a live rear axle.

Indeed. Old model 3/Y were bouncy.
