Hi, just bought my first EV which is a 2020 Taycan 4S 93.4 kWh - the car has done 39K miles

Just want to ask if this sort of consumption is normal

Looks like if I charge 100% the total range is around 196 miles

Around 170 miles at 80%

The car was due for a service last week, but Porsche official dealer won’t give me a SOH on the battery except for a green light

Took a screenshot of the consumption and wanted to know if this is normal

I'd say it's a little high. It really depends on whether you are driving somewhere hilly and cold and taking only short trips. If that's the case, it could be OK. I get in the 32 kWh/100mi in my 2020 4S. But I generally drive on flat roads, and mostly in the summer.

Set your units in the PCM to mi / kwh rather than kwh/100mi - easier to compare UK cars that way.

Works out at a healthy 3.1 mi/kwh which is about on the money for a 4S. You have the Performance Battery Plus (83.7 kwh usable) which in summer should be good for 259 miles (depending on how you drive, AC, type of wheels / tyres, weather etc).

I had a 4S from new for 2 years 20K miles and overall consumption from day 1 to the day I sold was 3.0 mi / kwh.

Now that it's cold expect your range to tail off - can drop a lot e.g. 20 miles or more.

Short journeys will increase consumption - particularly in winter when the battery is cold and doesn't get a chance to heat up. Don't be alarmed if you see 2.3 - 2.5 on a cold 4 mile journey.

Use of AC (heating) saps the battery as I'm sure you're aware.

In summary, I think you have a very healthy battery.

congrats. Winter range is going to be a mixed bag as you'll have heating on, maybe heated seats and steering wheel. at 85% I am 180-190. 100% 210-220. In the summer 100% get's me 250 -276.

Keep in mind that when people range it might be with climate control off -normally jumps up 30 miles. If you always leave climate control it will drop.

I have the same model and with 34000 miles and at this time of year 85% charge delivers 200 miles. If you’ve only just got the car I would reset the consumption data and start again as it will vary dependent on driver and usage.

Congratulations on the new car!

I was browsing around the trip records in my car's ('22 GTS Turismo) app earlier and the long term value (over the car's first ~20,000 miles) is 3.0mi/kwh.

I've been seeing values closer to yours (2-2.5mi/kwh) in the few weeks since I've had the car. I put the higher consumption down to the fact that I live in quite a hilly area and do a lot of short journeys with the heating, heated seats and steering wheel turned on!

I'm not sure how relevant it is, but my car always reports 178 miles range at 80% charged.

Congrats on the the 2020 4S, it’s the best version, but only because I have one too lol

I dream of 3m/kwh. 200 miles in the winter, maybe up to 240 in summer but I use all of the available power most of the time 😬🤪

Since this is your first EV, I’ll talk about it as if it was your last car (a gas car).

The question you asked is like asking us if 20 miles per gallon is good or bad.

The answer is- it depends! How fast you drive, how much you accelerate or brake, how flat the area you drive in, all matter.

The one BIG difference for an EV now is temperature. Cold temps lower your efficiency by up to 30% or more.

Your numbers look fine though. Enjoy the new ride and try not to worry about range and efficiency. It just creates unnecessary anxiety for EV owners. Just drive the car and “fill it up” as needed. All those other details really don’t matter as there’s very little you can do about it anyways.

If you want to know SoH, simply buy an OBD scanner (search over this forum).
My prediction for 2020 would be between 80-85%.

Don’t bother with it. Enjoy the car for the next 3-6 months before check SOH. Also the most accurate reading is from Porsche. It’s free and you can ask when your car is in for service or warranty work.

I agree with others on this thread. Your range looks fine. As someone new to EV, you might establish a rule of thumb that you recharge at 30%. Then, gradually, you charge at lower SOC levels as you become accustomed to finding charging stations, waiting on line, and figuring out how, exactly, you charge. On the latter point, be sure to hear the “click” when you plug in to the car, and give some slack to the cable to allow a good fit with the nozzle. The click tells you that you have locked the nozzle into the car so that a charge may proceed. I had trouble with this when I first started as I did not allow sufficient slack on the cable. Enjoy your new car. You will.

Thanks for all the replies. I just need to figure out how to register the Porsche ID. I believe this is an email address and password so hopefully once I’ve got this registered I will be able to reset all the units and then fully work out what settings I will have on and workout a more accurate range then

I had to call Porsche then send them proof of ownership (sales order or registration).

Only took like 20 minutes

That won't help - Porsche ID has no bearing on any of this.

To create your id (takes about 15 secs) just register on the My Porsche website.

Your id must be linked tonyour VIN - only a dealer can do this.

Don’t need a dealer. I called the Porsche customer service number. They had me email them proof of ownership and only took a few minutes.
