This is why I love having OI integrated to the EVSE. When integrated to the car, OI knows exactly how much energy you need to top up. So if you only need to go 60% to 70% SoC, OI won’t likely give you extra hours beyond your 6 hours. But with the EVSE integration, and setting the app to ‘add 100%’, OI will usually give you up to 12 hours, sometimes more, of low rate - even if you only add 5% SoC to your car in that entire time! (Just have to leave car connected).
Thanks for correcting me, I didn’t know it worked in that way & Octopus are so generous!
A possible downside to always charging to 100% is battery degradation and Porsche saying that’s due to their charging guideline not being followed. If the car is on a lease or PCP or you don’t plan to keep it long that may not matter.

But you don’t actually charge to 100% :)

you just tell the OI app you want to ‘add 100%’. But you then set your profile as you wish - so you could only add 1% each night if you wanted.

I had no idea that the OI worked like this. To make it even smarter, I could actually plug the other electric vehicle into the charger and tell it to charge to 100% getting cheap electricity everynight. This is genius thank you

I guess the only caveat is that you aren’t guaranteed extra cheap hours, and the time you get them may vary, and may be in separate blocks. Eg i once plugged in at 5pm and was scheduled 8pm-8:30pm and 9:30pm-10pm then 11pm to 8am. Your less likely to get extra hours in winter when the grid is under heavy load, it at least you always get some extra.

just a word of caution on extending out the charge session to get the cheaper rate for longer.. I think it was on the myenergi forums (at the time they introduced the zappi integration with OI) I read that people were being removed from OI for what was seen as 'gaming' the system. Things like using the granny charger to charge the car to extend etc..

personally, OI works great with the zappi for me. Plug in car, set %age needed and for when.. and away it goes. The bonus of extra cheap slots is a plus!

Really frustrated as I have tried all the above and always get issues. My car used to bring up the ENODE profile and this was better, now it does not bring it up at all and charging always fails. I believe it recognises the first set of times set by Octopus then loses it when the second one tries to kick in. Every morning I get the message 'could not control the car' stressful as you never know what charge you will have when you wake up.
