The door handles feel mechanical to me in the Taycan so not only power needed is muscle power.

I agree it feels mechanical - but don't want to assume since it could be critical some day!

It is still mechanical as a cable is connecting the internal handle with the door lock. For the Tesla it is electric using a contact..

I just saw this article about Tesla owners trapped inside by power loss: https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/new...1&cvid=3fb1da361d724304edb71a228d63879b&ei=14.

It made me think to ask: what is the way you open a Taycan door from inside if there is a total power loss? Anybody know? I've looked in the manual and it does not seem to be addressed. Is it even an issue?
If you pull the handle "a little bit" then it's an electronic release. If you pull it more than that, there is a mechanical release that kicks in.

+1 to this as this is exactly how it is designed consistent with other EVs.
Half pull is electric and past that is mechanical.

They just ran out of time designing comfort (soft) close.
I do not mind _NOT_ having it on the SUVs, but Taycan really needs it.
I am still trying to modulate to best close it on the first try.

My understanding is that Porsche does it the right way: a normal, gentle pull is electrical, but if that isn't working, a hard pull is mechanical and doesn't require power. That's what you want because it has to be intuitive when there is an emergency. After an accident or fire, imagine looking around on the floorboards for the flap of carpet hiding a pull ring. Anyway, I believe the original Tesla Model S was the right way, but Tesla became obsessed with saving money with only a button to open. You can get trapped in a Tesla, especially in the back seat.

I gotta admit I am still a little concerned because i find myself, sometimes, pulling the door handle and finding it will not open unless I pull it again. That tells me that, under certain conditions, an electronic control is blocking a mechanical process. How that electronic control would work in an emergency (no power) is suspect to me!

yes..and what concerns me is that the pull process is controlled by electronics..if power is out, those electronics are suspect and MAY not function to allow the 2nd pull to open the door.

Both pulls are mechanical as long as you pull far enough to get to the 2nd stop. There are 2 stops for the lever. The first stop is the electronic open, the 2nd stop is the mechanical open. No need to worry.

You sound so confident that I am reassured! I sure hope you are right!. Thanks

We have had reports of a couple of cars that lost all power. No one reported that they could not get out of their cars. Getting into them, however…
