I have two mild regrets: carbon fiber interior trim: looks like matte grey plastic, zero appeal. And the 14-way adjustable seats are pretty uncomfortable in the hips for me. I’m tall, not heavy, and the side bolsters are too narrow. I have to use a customized (by me) seat cushion to make it tolerable for more than 15 minutes. I hear the less adjustable seats are better.
I put PPF on my interior carbon bits and it’s made a big difference. Photos can be found here: https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/matte-to-gloss-carbon-fiber-interior.17216/

Great thread. I have a bunch of stuff... Here's my take:

  • Burmester - must have. I've had the Audi and BMW upgraded systems too and this is by far the strongest.
  • Variable light control panoramic roof - must have. It's just cool.
  • Heads up display - must have.
  • 19kwh onboard charging - must have. I installed the 100A Porsche Wall Charger and it's a game changer.
  • Ventilated seats - must have.
  • Olea Club Leather Comfort Seats - must have for me. Softer than the sports.
  • Night vision assist - must have. I thought it was a waste till it saved me a few times.
  • Thermal glass - can live without. Toll tag issues are frustrating.
  • InnoDrive - never used. Likely never will.
  • Massage seats - gimmicky. I can live without and it's a pain to turn on. BMW was one button press.
For massage seats just push the center button on the 5 way knob on the side of the seat.

love the list - politely disagree on the powered charge port door - loved it when they added it to my 2014 Tesla Model S P85D (previously was manual close) - miss it on my Cayenne eHybrid - and haven't looked back - to me the key feature is not that it opens - it's that it closes when I unplug and walk away
While having an auto close is definitely a nice feature, what made me steer clear of it was the fact that it makes the 2 vents behind the front wheels non-functional. It reminds me of stick on vents like this. ;)

That said, I had auto open/close on 3 of the 4 Teslas, and will say the Tesla version offers more utility than Taycan:
  1. You can auto open from the charger or EVSE handle - no need to touch a car and dirty your finger. Yes I know you can open the Taycan charge port from the PCM (if you remember) or maybe even from the app (if you have the patience to wait a minute or two), but those are not very practical.
  2. Tesla can always auto close, as opposed to Taycan which will not auto close if you forget to close the CCS1 flap (not a thing for NACS). As a matter of fact, while doing my long drive home from picking up the Taycan, I quickly adjusted to having to manually close the charge port, however it took me longer to learn to remember to close the CCS1 flap - many times I attempted to manually close and only then realizing I have to close the flap. If I had automatic charge port, it wouldn't have auto closed. I'm surprised Porsche didn't address this, but it might be that the automatic charge port doors were an afterthought, which would also explain why they turn perfectly functional vents into non-functional decorations.
but I understand different strokes for different folks…spot on for the rest of list!
Absolutely, hence the counterpoints above. :)

Options I wish I got:

full leather interior, really elevates the car. Right now it feels kind of cheap with the only upside that the car sits at a train station while I am at work, so I feel less bad about the leather being exposed to the sun.

Cooled seat, it gets hot in the summer and my sweaty lower back and some times, my balls, would appreciate instant coolness.

Options I wish I didnt get:

Electric sports sound-- I only turn it on when driving near wooded area to make sure the deers are aware that I am coming down the road
Great idea about animals

the passenger screen is a gimmick because it only really works when passenger is sitting there, otherwise it displays dimmed music choice or Taycan logo. I hear the new model even blacks it out completely when viewing at an angle. The purpose of that screen should have been to give driver a choice to display something in it, like music in full mode and maybe map in the center console.

One thing it does do is prevent the road crap coming off the front tyres, through the vents and all down the door. That in itself is worth the powered charge ports for me

Exactly! Different people, different preferences. Personally I typically prefer function over form, but it doesn't make it the only valid preference. This is why Porsche has so many options. Given the choice, some would prefer PDCC, others neodyme accents - that is what makes the world such an interesting place. Porsche helps make it so by making so many options available.

Especialy when compared to my recent purchase of a Mini Cooper SE EV - there were 3 trim levels, each which comes with one of 3 option packs. No customisation whatsoever. We were forced in to a choice based on must-haves.

+1 I added it thinking it might be useful turned out to be redundant.
I use HUD most of the time, love it. With night vision displayed on the instrument cluster, my speed there is very high and partially obscured by the steering wheel. The only time I turn HUD off when going up/down steep hills in the city (HUD displays "on the road" going uphill which I find distracting).

That is most manufacturers. Streamlines production and supply chains. Makes the cars cheaper to buy.

Cheaper to buy..not so much with the mini  When we started buying Minis it was 17k for a good spec, we're now paying 40k and the car isn't as good. Chinese made vs UK too and it feels like it too

I meant cheaper than cars with lots of options, like the Taycan. Hence no 40K Taycans, but I suspect you can get a Tesla M3 for 40K. Less variations means they can produce and stock inventory cars. Good luck specing a Taycan and finding one with the exact configuration you chose in inventory anywhere in the country. There are more options combinations of Taycans than there will ever be Taycans produced. For the Mini, if there are 3 trim levels, 3 option packs, that's 9 combinations. Times the number of colors (say 7, total shot in a dark), that's 27 possible configuration combinations. Dealer installed options don't count by the way. The manufacturer can stock 100 of each, that would make it 2700 cars in stock for some region, not too bad. Most people can find the car they want and get it within days, vs. Taycan which takes months (in my case 20 months) from decision to buy to car arriving - would have been longer than 20 months for me if I didn't expand my search to nationwide too.

I have £35k of options on my GTS.

Things i wouldnt have again:
  • HUD - I just don't look at it... I notice it every now and again and think oh that's cool.
  • Passenger Display - Wouldn't spec it again. Its cool but cant do car play...
  • Rear Screen Wiper Trim painted in Black (high-gloss) - just LOL...
  • Brake Callipers painted in Black (high-gloss) - I'd probably have preferred them red.
Nice to haves:
  • SportDesign Package Carbon - I like a bit of Carbon.
  • GTS interior package in Crayon - Interior feels much more special. Hmmmm Race Tex!
  • Door Release Levers painted in Black (high-gloss) - on my white car they look great.
The rest of the list is basically stuff that would be standard on most other cars.
