Part 3: The Quest for the Perfect Tune

Just received my ENET cable today and promptly connected it to my TTS and uploaded the ASG info with MapEV to the "mothership".

I then headed over to mapev.net and did a direct order (didn't give me an option to select what options I wanted, but I guess that comes when the team contacts me directly?).

Quick question on the regen breaking. I picked the 30% level. So this means if I let completely off the gas pedal, there will be noticeable slowdown/regen vs. the very light factory “coasting to a stop” with regen enabled (button on steering wheel). But if I only let off the gas a little, I can modulate the amount of breaking, right? Like rolling up on stopped cars at a light.

I have one pedal driving enabled on my other EV (Lyriq) and it's much stronger at breaking when I let off the gas (guess I should call it the accelerator pedal, lol) completely. While that works well most of the time, it can get jerky if I get back on the accelerator pedal again if I realize I will stop too soon if I don't. Hopefully the 30% will be sort of middle of the road.

30% means factory plus 30%, it's a very small change.

The one pedal style Regen with wider modulation range is the "300%" option.

I have my set at 30% and it feels perfect, not the level of my wifes Tesla Y strong but definitely more noticeable, balanced and not jerky at all. For me its really good for the city driving if you dont want to use Auto regen. Good thing that you can completely turn it off if you dont need it.
The rune is perfect and with extra regen option its a great package. You will like it.

FedEx tracking is showing the ASG will be here in a couple of hours. Went ahead and pulled the side cover and noticed the trunk side trim hinge cover was cracked:

Ordered a brand new one (not bad at $26 shipped).

I guess previous owner was running a modded ASG as well. So car has probably seen some hard use. It came off a 2 year lease, so a little surprised they would have spent the coin on a modded ASG.

The 02.07.23 date would be consistent with my door sticker build of 08/23, so I think its the original unit. So if there was another unit in the car, the original owner probably took it out before turning in the leased car?

So I got the MapEV unit today and got it installed. Went for a test drive with 90% SoC and I have to say that seat of the pants did not notice a significant difference. On the Interstate punching it at 80 mph, it was pulling harder than before (seat of the pants observation). But from like a 10 mph roll, no real difference.

Now I got this car used and there was evidence the previous owner had removed the side cover to gain access to the ASG (at least that's my assumption as to why the trim piece was cracked.) See post above.

Is it possible that this car already had the factory unit flashed with the Redshift code? Do they put a sticker on units before they return them? I have nothing to compare to since this is my first Taycon. If I did have a Redshift unit already, would MapEV not have detected that when I pushed my ASG data to them via the app?

I ordered a Dragy Pro and will do some 1/4 mile and 60 to 130 mph test and see what numbers I get. I'll then put in the one that came with the car and repeat the test. Will be interesting to see what I get.

I suppose another possibility is my battery is somewhat shot and not putting out what it supposed to?

Dragy should reveal all I would think.

Definitely do some back to back dragy testing, it should clear up your questions. The tuned asg wouldn't be easy to sell, so not sure if the lessee would have bothered to tune it.

Which model do you have? There is a graph on the website detailing which ones gain the most and which are the most noticeable.

Indeed, if @crazydane’s profile is correct it’s already a Turbo S! Biggest delta is on a CT4.

Yes, I have the Turbo S and realize there is very little gain when in launch mode. I have never tried launch mode, so I've only ever experienced 625 PS / 950 Nm.

However, with the MapEV tune, I would have expected a noticeable seat of the pants feel flooring it from 5-10 mph vs. what I had before (175 PS gain), but I didn't.

Mind you, I only just picked up the car on July 10th (15 days ago) and it was amazingly fast during my test drive before writing the check. Scary in fact. But over the next 2 weeks I got totally used to it, lol.

But I would have expected to feel the 175 PS gain since I never tried launch mode. This is why I'm wondering if the car already had a tune in it? The fact that the trunk side trim hinge cover was cracked is a clear indicator that someone has had the cover before.

I know that the ASG I received from EFI Motorsport had a sticker on it with my VIN, where the one I pulled out of the car had no aftermarket stickers on it. So whatever was in the car when I got it, was likely NOT a MapEV tune, but it could possibly be a Redshift one, assuming they don't put stickers on theirs (typically the customer's ASG they sent in to get flashed).

But once I get the Dragy, I'll be able to not just go by seat of the pants feel. Would a good test be to do a 1/4 mile run without launch control, followed by one with it? I should see a pretty significant difference I would think. I would start out at 90% SoC. Then put the original ASG back in, charge back up to 90% SoC and repeat both runs in the same order.

There is a very noticeable difference, I developed the whole thing on my Turbo S.

From a roll it's almost 2 seconds faster 100-200...

How much SoC did you test with?
