Hi all - should be collecting my new 4S CT in a week or two. Couple of questions:

It was a dealer order so has 99% of the options I wanted (minus rear heated seats) but comes with some I would not have ordered. Passenger Display being the main one. What does the passenger display actually do on the J1.2 car? I get the navigation and music control but does it do video natively or have I got to do some weird workaround?

Also, anything I should be particularly conscious of on collection day? Or should I do in advance?
Thanks!

There is a new PCM feature to run YouTube on the display.

The passenger display is a good concept, though likely not too useful in the Taycan due to its smaller cabin size. I can see it being useful in a Cayenne. When I was searching for my Taycan, I initially prioritized this option. On road trips, my wife typically plays around with the media and adds stops to the route. Then I saw a review and the reality is that the screen is only 6 inches away from the center screen and on a multi-hour trip, the passenger flipping through the center screen is not distracting. Since then, I also found out, the car can detect a passenger in the seat and allow for full functions (keyboard) in the center screen, again defeating the primary purpose of the passenger display.

On collection day, I'd say the most important thing to configure with the dealer is your Porsche ID login into the car. Beforehand, create a online profile, add a credit card for charging services so that the dealer can assist you to set up the car with no delay . Some initial decisions to make include privacy mode which can result in less features being available in the Porsche mobile app. Initial setup and tinkering is with it is easily 30 minutes to 1 hour. The Porsche mobile app also has a digital user manual with a search feature that's critical if you don't have time to go through the table of contents.

If you haven't already, play with the online PCM emulator to give you a good idea the settings and options that can be configured.

passenger display is almost useful but not enough to make a strong case for it…that being said consider a few things:
  • it can get better with future software
  • my wife prefers it vs. blank piece of piano gloss black trim in it place
    • it's not like the space it occupies is more useful if you do not option it…
  • it's sometimes useful on road trips to have media on the passenger display and PCM navigation with battery % and route info on the main screen
is it a must have? no!
would I get a Porsche with out it? no - not these days!
do we miss it in our Cayenne (when it was not an option) - yes!
is it as useful as it could be? no!

personally I still prefer it to blank trim that would occupy the space - but I get it that some people really hate it.

my $0.02 - YMMV.

the passenger display is gimmicky on J1 model because it only displays word Taycan or a name of the music track you are playing and some graphics. However, you can at least see that from the driver's point of view. I am told that J1.2 uses polarized glass and driver can't see squat.

I am on my 2nd CT, and have optioned the passenger display on both vehicles. My husband and I take a lot of driving trips, and we love it to allow the passenger to “play” with the different displays, and control the music easily. I just got my MY2025 4S CT, and haven’t played with the video as yet, other than setting up my account. I would always option it, but maybe it just fits with my philosophy of having modern cars act like gadgets on wheels. With the Taycan, you get a superb driving experience and gadgets to play with!

the passenger display on J1 was fully functional if someone is in the passenger seat - but only has music cover art if no one is in the seat. Otherwise it fully worked.

I have the passenger display, and it allows that person to mess around with various things without affecting what I see on the main PCM-notably Waze and any warnings that may be there. I love the extra display.

Good point but I guess I’m wondering how often people do stuff. What video services can you use on it or does it require a USB stick? I’ve seen the new YouTube integration but all I watch on that are TAYCAN reviews!

While being spectacular, the passenger display allows my wife to oversee the roadtrip planning, check the next charger availability, change the route, etc. She’s part of any long journey.
We love it. Next trip before Xmas to go skiing, then go north to meet the family and back home. 1200 miles. Looking forward to it.

It's not something I'd have specced, but delighted it's on the car I'm getting.

Looking forward to see how (and if) it gets used by my wife and daughter.

Not a lot and generally a waste of money. Play videos possiby .

Collection day - make sure you can log into the pcm with your Porsche ID - part of the handover process. 4 years now since launch and so i'd hope the dealers had figured most things out.

The passenger display allows the passenger to help navigating, nothing else. No vehicle settings can be altered, just nav, and music. Porsche describes it that your passenger can help navigating during rally racing.

The whole thing around videos is a unwelcome feature. I would hate if my passenger is watching a movie and using the speakers. I would welcome it on my J1 only as confirmation Porsche is still bringing new features to my J1. Not trying to start a nee discussion, but I think in the end the J1’s will get most J1.2 visual changes in PCM
