Hi all, I’m after some advice, firstly Taycan charging, we have a charger installed some day charge to 80% only but we recently had all the recalls done at Porsche Mid Sussex and they completely charged it up to 100% as part or this valet etc.

Also, we are coming to the end or the independent dealer Warranty we got when we purchased the car so I’m thinking about extended for £90 per month or going direct to Porsche for prob double that. Out mileage is super low at 15k and we only do 4k per year, it’s a 1 owner car too.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Charging to 100% doesn’t hurt the car, you’re lucky you got some free electricity from the garage!

Charging to 100% every so often is not an issue, its not like it happened and now the battery is ruined!

Warranty is an insurance product, so just read and compare the policy documents and choose the one that suits your requirements best.

In my case, when it comes to purchasing my external warranty, I won't consider anything less than an official Porsche policy. It gives worldwide cover and access to the right people and equipment if something does go wrong. You've a Taycan, something will eventually go wrong.

I bought my Taycan from an independent dealer, their warranty was ok while I waited until I‘d owned the car for 90 days then it was 111 point check and straight onto a Porsche warranty. In particular the claims limit and hourly labour rates were not suitable on the dealer warranty, the Porsche warranty was easily the best value.

3 years Porsche warranty is £3k. So less than your £90/month. Porsche assist is extra, but if you buy 3 years up front it is similar to RAC or AA I think. About £440 for the 3 years

My insurance insists I pay for their assistance service; it is not optional if I want cover. It does seem very comprehensive and I'd probably use it if I was stranded abroad. But does using Porsche assist (its rebadged AXA rescue here in Ireland) offer any Porsche specific benefits – such as priority queuing when it gets back to Porsche Centre?

I don't know if I'll drop the Porsche Assist when the free new car period ends.

From what I've gathered, charging to 100% isn't the issue. The issue is when you keep your battery with a high charge for a long period of time. And even worse when the environment temperature is high.

So if you intend to leave on a trip tomorrow, and you charge the car to 100%, that isn't a big issue.

But if you plan to leave the car parked somewhere under the summer sun for several days with the battery at 100%, that could affect its health negatively.

Hence why these heuristics of "charging only until 80%". They are a general simplification of all these scenarios.

Until there is a wide ranging specialist network of Taycan repairers you are limited to Centres for diagnostics and repairs; standard labour rates can be nearly 400/hr - for me; whether or not to have a Warranty would be the easiest decision EVER!

IMHO...No one should own a Taycan without a Porsche extended warranty.

HI,

We live in the USA and bought a used 2021 Taycan 4S as a CPO car from a Porsche dealer, The CPO adds two years at unlimited mileage to the Porsche original warranty of 4 years and 50k miles. We purchased an additional year of Porsche warranty so we are covered until March 2028. The car has had over $50k in warranty repairs (yes, $50k, not a misprint) so I would never own this car without a warranty. While my example is no doubt extreme and most of this happened in the first owners 12k miles, you never know. Good luck, Juergen

Battery's covered by an 8 year (100K miles) warranty from first registration regardless of owner.

Porsche warranty is expensive but in the case of the Taycan it would be like playing Russian roulette to not have it.

Given the low mileage then no need to charge often or even to 80%. Key is not to leave car for days on end with a high state of charge.

Charging to 100% is also fine with the proviso that you use the car that day e.g. if going on a long journey.

I have a 2022 Taycan and I'm thinking about extending the Porsche warranty. It costs €1500 per year here, is it worth it?

I charge the car to 80% every day, is that okay?
