I received notice to bring my charger in to swap out the power cord with the new "temperature sensing plug." I am concerned that this is just another excuse for them to reduce the charging voltage and amperage.

My plug sometimes gets a little warm when charging but if I leave the door to the charger open, I have not any issues in 3 1/2 years.

Has anyone made the switch and is charging any different?

My appointment is tomorrow.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Personally - I would take it in .... the risk for your home, family, insurance payout .... just not worth it in my view ...

BTW love San Clemente .... just moved to CDM this last month but San Clemente was on the list .....

do the recall - then store the unit away someplace- and purchase one of the many many worthy alternatives that are simply better…

easy!

Listen to what daveo4EV says.............put it in a closet and buy a reliable and affordable alternative. I happened to purchase a ChargePoint but there are a number of quality alternatives.

I would reply quick since your appointment is tomorrow, but this is about a year old story.

Yes, you should do it, so your charger has the revised cable and the firmware update.

No, you should not be using it, as it is the worst. Mine has never been out of the bag since purchase. The only way I can see me using it is in absolute emergency.

Yes, get yourself a better 3rd party (we can help you choose), ideally direct wire, and expense it to Porsche since the letter states you can get one, and they will pay for it. No, do not choose the cash option, or you will never see it. Yes, choose a service voucher instead. I submitted my request by e-mail, and next day got the service voucher. Then apply that for any service. I spent mine quick on another car service. Yes, do it quickly before that offer is off the table.

No, with the new cable with thicker guage wire and a temp sensor, and the firmware update, the charger runs at full power (40A @ 240V).

I never had any overheating problems with my existing PMCC, and none after the recall. When I first plugged in the updated combination the PMCC briefly flashed a red warning "temp too high" but that went away, and I haven't seen it since. But as others have said, I don't use the PMCC for home charging, but I think you could, as long as you have an EV 14-50 (like Hubble).

I would just wait for the new cable. The cable they have currently is manufactured incorrectly. Plug faces away from the wall. A new cable will be released at some point in the future.

Not for me. I had the cable recall done in October. Here is old vs. new. It could be argued that the old cable was also wrong, but old vs new are the same orientation.

Yes both of yours are wrong original cable points to the wall as it should. Should never have to twist a high voltage cable to plug it in.

Yup, the Porsche wall mount wants the cable oriented as shown below, and I believe there is a half twist, sort of, to plug in. I would say the half-twist isn't a super big deal. But the other way would have been better. It is less of an issue if you use the the PMCC as a portable charger and don't wall mount.

I would do it simply because it does show up as an active recall for your car. I went in early this week just for that reason. It was on my CarFax report as an open recall and I wanted to have that cleared off just in case I wanted to sell. I don't think it would do much to help the plunging resale values but at least there wouldn't be an open recall.

Two comment. First, I got the new 18" replacement cable and it is definitely manufactured incorrectly. The faceplate/keybord faces the wall when it is pluged in. The old one was manufactured correctly. Customer service says the new one is manufactured as intended! They must think we are idiots. I am not giving up on this - wrote to Prosche of North America and Germany. Will see what happens. Second, I took them up on the offer of a new charger and got a ChargPoint. Since I am not electrically inclined, can I just plug the new ChargePoint cable into my existing 240V outlet and everything will work fine? Do I need an electrican to do anything? Program it, etc? Thanks,, Mister G

if you ordered a plug based chargepoint flex if should just plug in - you will need to confirm it is set for 50 amp breaker 40 amp charge rate via the app - other than that it should just work
