I just took delivery on a 2025 Tacan rear wheel drive. To my surprise, with the key fob in pocket when I got in the car power to the car went on and all I had to do is put it reverse to back out of my garage. Is this supposed to be a feature? I have small grand kids and what the heck would happen if my five year older took the key fob with him and got in the car. As kids do, he could play with the buttons and inadvertently put the car in gear. Need your help. Can this “feature” be shut off? If so, how? Appreciate your help.

We are here to help. I looked at the manual and I do not think it is possible to turn this off.
There is a difference between Operational Readiness (electronics on mode) and Driving Readiness (brake must be pressed down before gear shifting is possible).

The only way I can see to make it more difficult is to read Comfort Access section and dial it to the mode that you think would prevent kids from getting into the car by turning off certain features or disabling the ability for the key to be detected on approach.

I have to admit this issue never crossed my mind (and my grand kids are precious)....without them pressing the brake pedal, they should be reasonably safe BUT you can also put your key in a faraday pouch in case they grab it...

Note that this behavior is the same as the 2020-2024 (J1) Taycan. Get in car with key. Press foot on brake. Wait a few seconds for car to "boot". Put car in drive/reverse. Drive away.

VW group cars have this "sit to start." The only difference between this and other current keyless vehicles is that you don't have to push the brake and push the start button. But you do have to push the brake and put it in gear to move, like other cars. If kids can push the brake and put it in gear, they quite likely could have also pushed the brake and pushed the start button. So, yes, with a key, a kid can start any car and drive it. This has happened when an 8-year old drove family car to Target.
