The power button is not dangerous- regardless of how quickly it responds, its current status is obvious from the state of the screens.
I only use it when I need to get out to open/close the garage door or load/unload the car, because I never take the tracker fob out of my pocket (for fear of forgetting to remove it from the car), so would otherwise get a call from the tracker monitoring service to check the car hadn't been stolen.

My wife was never into this for the first two decades of our marriage, then the pandemic hit, and turned out she was a landscaper sleeping cell.
Maybe something in the Covid mRNA vaccine activated the gardener gene in a large portion of the female population? ;)
As in, like, how do they consider this a fun activity?
Well, my wife doesn't quiet get how I enjoy doing things like this to my cars:
Porsche Taycan On off button on Taycan dangerous? 1721810472935-un
Porsche Taycan On off button on Taycan dangerous? 1721811297084-pt
Porsche Taycan On off button on Taycan dangerous? 1721811418477-lw

or (since this is a Taycan forum)
Porsche Taycan On off button on Taycan dangerous? 1721810091515-3m
Porsche Taycan On off button on Taycan dangerous? 1721811814272-22

or how it can become a group activity too (wait, what? you found other people who want to do this with you?!?) ;)
Porsche Taycan On off button on Taycan dangerous? 1721810237088-uq

But hey, we all have our own unique ways to have fun. To be honest, other than initial vehicle costs, the gardening hobby is more expensive (plus my hobbies also sometimes make some money, helping me offset the costs).
And does your wife also need reminders not to place bags of bark mulch and soil directly on the leather seats of expensive German cars?1
I'm happy to say no. I got tarps for her car to put down on the back of the car when the back seats are folded. She likes her car clean (not to be confused with uncluttered). Sure, there may end up being some dirt scuffs from the plants on the roof liner, but I can deal with some cleaning of alcantara before selling the vehicle. Unhappy wife = unhappy life. ?‍♂

Maybe our wives can compare notes when we visit WA next summer.
Let me know when you're down (left?) here. Advanced warning, this may cost us a lot more money if they exchange ideas of what looks great in the garden (expect new sheds, obelisks, trellises, pavers, plants, trees, pots, etc). :CWL:

So learned something new from these 4 pages.
I don't need to use my On/Off button!

I do the park cos who here has driven a car that does not require you to park the trans when you stop and get out?? But I also shut down the car with the On/Off button since it functions just like an ignition button.
I'll skip the last part now but won't tell my wife. She left my car running for over half hour cos she simply walked away like she would with her Tesla
Her argument, which makes sense, is that the car turned on by itself, why would I assume it couldn't turn off by itself?

Not at all. I was just assuming, you could be right. I’m not very good at reading instructions!
Pretty sure it's the P button for emergency brake. But now I'm not sure anymore if you're supposed to hold it or just press. I assume hold.

Whether the On/Off button does anything while driving, I'm not sure. I suspect not.

Just a tap of the P button locks the trans. Probably won't work if you are above a certain speed.

Remember folks, the Taycan was design many moons ago when the only car company that didn't do things like your regular BMW 535i start and park function was Tesla. And even they still had some legacy features in their model S' (the only compatible car at the time)

Fascinating thread. I always use park.....to park the car. However, didn't realize that I shouldn't be using the on/off button too. Do most people JUST use park and not touch the on/off button?
Yep. Push "P" for park, exit the car, touch door handle to lock. For me, the power button is irrelevant. Easy peasy.

THIS! Walk away door lock (like Tesla) is so simple. I wish Porsche would do this.

A secondary function of the Park button is emergency braking if regen or friction brakes fail, discussed in another thread here. In that case, it works at speed and gradually applies the electric parking brake but only as long as you press and hold P.

Not specifically related to the original discussion but worth repeating for those who haven't read already. This is listed in the owner manual under 'Emergency braking function'.

The gardening/landscaping sleeper cell activation was trigged by the virus not the vaccine: my wife told me that the owners of what rapidly became her favorite gardening/landscaping store (many to choose from here!) had been worried at the onset of the pandemic that they would go out of business, but instead the place was packed in 2020!

However, unlike those customers who probably have since returned to pre-pandemic pastimes (like all those people we saw in 2020 on our favorite hiking trails, now once again deserted), my wife has only ramped up her activity.
(I have to admit though, our yard is spectacularly beautiful.)

I foresee a great get-together next summer (probably late June), with our wives discussing their gardening/landscaping, your wife marveling at how her husband finds working on cars to be fun, my wife marveling at how her husband finds mounting ski bindings for his buddies to be fun, all while you show off all our car stuff to me!
