@rasa.bagd, besides the surface protection, PPF is now available in a lot of great colors for those who want to change the look of the car. Compared to vinyl “wrap”, colored PPF is much thicker and has a layer of actual metallic flake and paint pigment in it (at least the colored PPFs I’ve seen at @Adrian@GlasWerksDMV’s shop), making it indistinguishable from factory paint. Adrian just PPFd this black 911 cabriolet in metallic green, and in the same lighting conditions, the surface looks identical to my mamba green Taycan. (BTW he also installed the Kline inconel exhaust and swapped out the wheels with neodyme gold Forgelines.)

Hello,

I’ve been offered Paint Protection Film (PPF) for my Taycan. What do you think about that? Do you believe it’s worth it?

Thank you.
As someone with a fully PPF’d vehicle, I say no. Best to get a ceramic coating and a bottle of touch up paint for most people. If you really want to get PPF anyway, I would do the front clip and the roof if its glass.

Just to expand with my $0.02: Yes, I think PPF is worth doing, although I only chose to do the front end, hood, and items in the airstream plus some high touch areas like the trunk sill and door handle detents.

Having said that, rather than agreeing to the dealer's offer I would instead recommend you search around your area for the best reviewed PPF installer that specializes in PPF protection and works on higher-end cars. Your dealer installer may not be as experienced, spend the time to do as high-quality a job, use the best possible materials, or go the extra mile the way a dedicated installer might. Also, your dealer option may actually be more expensive as they will be adding a significant markup to whatever the installer is charging them if they aren't a dealership employee.

I've had my Taycan for three and a half years now and the PPF has definitely saves me from some rock chips, bug and bird dropping damage, and other mishaps. I'm glad I did it. BTW, after getting the PPF I did the entire car in ceramic, so I have the benefits of both.

Will have mine PPF‘d once it arrives. That will include the headlights. Caught a good sized rock at 70 MPH direct-hit on my Corvette’s driver side one. XLPEL worked its magic — saved a $1,500 repair bill.

That is saving $1,500 after paying $5,000 for the PPF ? I have no PPF as I think it is way too expensive and I have never seen any increased second hand value because of it ( let's not talk depreciation here :) ). If it was $500 I would consider it. But the main reason for skipping it is because my car insurance covers all damages to the car including dents, chips, glass damage etc. with no deductible for any damage over $1,000. So at Porsche prices I'm always fully covered...

I'd recommend requesting to see the work in person to determine whether the work of the installer/company matches your standards. If done well, PPF can be near invisible while providing excellent paint protection. The problem is that many dealerships use companies that provide the biggest margin, and those are usually the newer companies. The only way you'll know whether the standards of the PPF company matches yours is by seeing examples in person.

I think geography and how fussy you are about paintwork condition. In the US, I find a lot of crap is thrown up from the roads, have to deal with salt in the winter etc - combine that with I like a car without swirls and stop chips I've had 3 cars done with full PPF; and two with front hood only. My first car here, a Q7, looked like shit after a few years of driving - heavily stone-chipped/small indentations on the hood.

I never had cars done in the UK, lived near the south coast and drove a car low to the ground, and never had the same issues/concerns as I have here. Very little issue with stone chips on the bonnet.

As others have said, make sure you find a good installer. Is the dealer doing the work or do they have a trusted/regular detail shop they use for that work. I didn't use my dealer's recommendation, but they did rate them very highly and they did nearly all their work (so used to working on some very nice machinery).

I have a full Xpel PPF installed and I'm happy with it. But I also had PPF on some other cars so for me it's a no brainer.
But I would only do it if you are car passioned, you love your car and you want your car in the best condition.
If you don't mind getting a stone chip or you don't going to have the car for a long time (leasing for couple of years) I would not put it on. The extra cost, for a full car PPF, is expensive and for short term using the car you are never gonna get back the full price of it.

Another thing to keep in mind is that most of the time you will not get extra money, from dealerships, that a PPF is installed. Only car enthousiast will give you some extra.

Also important to know is that PPF can only cover the parts that's possible to put PPF on. The Taycan does have hard plastic parts in the front, around the headlights, side bumpers and in the back and those parts could eventually get marks/scratches/stone chips. But the positive side of this is dat those hard plastic parts aren't expensive.

Yes definitely. A car went into my back and PPF helped a lot with impact. Very slight damage and all other bumper marks from the other car were simply wiped away with hot water.

Yes to PPF.

Don't have to worry about bird doo doo sitting on the car for a few hours.
Sometimes lazy to wash the car using the double bucket method? No problem.
Got some gunk that's hard to get off? Your nails and some saliva will work just fine.

This is my first car with PPF. It was PPF that has ceramic, so it makes the car shine like fresh wax when washed and dried. If I can afford it, I will never have a car without it again. All I have to do to wash it is to spray foam cannon, quickly brush, rinse off and dry. And it looks freshly detailed, and stays looking that way for a long time. Quite awesome.
