Personally, not something that really appeals, as it draws attention. People do remember cars with private dabs.

There are a few Ice Grey Taycans nearby and I always recognise the one with the dabs. I even know where it lives as I saw it on the drive.

But that's just me. Wife and family members have had them.

If I was the OP and had the plate already though, it may as well go on.

My friend once had one that spelt BOLLOX that I liked.

Indeed- I'm sure there are others (I did say joint record holder). I wonder if some maverick has even put GTS plates on a debadged GTS.

To your previous point about plates drawing unwanted attention, I agree, and having a more easily remembered one and an uncommon colour encourages me to behave impeccably (or so I like to think ? ) but even then, concern about the potential for being maliciously reported has made me invest in a dashcam for the rear as well, in case I ever need to prove it.

I have a private plate on retention (JH16GNS - my name is John Higgins). However, I can't decide whether to put in on the GTS when it arrives.

What do people think of 'low value' private plates. If I could find/afford JON 1 then I'd go for that one obviously! ?

Private plates aren't a thing here in Ireland, but you can reserve a specific number for €1,000. However, you'll only be issued your reserved number when it has naturally been reached.

For example, if you reserve 231-D-50000; then you'll have to wait until 49,999 cars have been registered in the first half of 23 in Dublin before you'll get that number.

As my first name is Damien – I was tempted to reserve 231-D-666 for my latest Taycan but decided that the next owner might not appreciate the joke.

Since you asked I am not keen on plates that have be manipulated to be understood with pretend screws etc and numbers as letters.........

6 FD is pretty good though.

I did order a personalised plate as I have a 3 letter surname, but only those that know me would realise. Its my initials (RF) RF23 then my 3 letter surname.....

I’m generally not a fan as I think they make your car even more conspicuous but I love the 2 cars parked side by side on Chelsea Embankment 2BE and NOT 2B. They’ve been there since at least the early 2000s.

I have one (X5 JRE - 5 being my lucky number, JRE being my initials) and have had it for about 15 years. Personally I prefer the look of the car with it compared to a standard plate and it personalises the car to me, but it's all personal preference.

I'm fond of personal plates, whether cryptic or easy. But the cryptic are most interesting - I have one myself. (By the way, in Norway all personal plates have the same price for the ten year allocarion period.)

The most surprising one I ever saw was many years ago. Some really old dear, pottering along the motorway ridiculously slowly in a Hillman Minx or something.

Can't remember the exact combination, but she had done all the spacing etc to make 'LILLIAN' ?

As the std plates reveal the age of a car - the vehicle almost inevitably attracts the attention of the vindictive jealous vandal types when brand-spanking new so having a personal plate reduces the risk a little. I went for S12 and my initials perhaps 20 years ago. It is possible to have legal 'show plates' made so at the bottom of mine and as a tease for my clay-shooting mates I have 'Perazzi Carriage'.
