This is one advantage of leasing. The lease company is losing the resale value, you just need to give it back when the lease ends.
Also, if you paid sales tax upfront or put down money upfront (capital cost reduction), that could be at risk if the vehicle gets totalled, so it may be more desirable for you if it is repaired.
Update: California requires Sales tax reimbursement for totalled vehicles.

Can I file a finished value claim even though it’s a lease?
I would think so. Everything is negotiable with the insurance company.

Update: so total repairs are about 50k and my insurance company approved repairs. However, they did no diagnostics on the HV battery and Mercury so far refuses to pay the 350 for the diagnostics. Should I just pay the 350? The car did show electrical system error and has no power, though from what I understand this may just be a protective measure. The other option is to go through the repair after which the service center will run diagnostics. Seems crazy.

Make sure they look at the battery protective plate. Porsche will void the battery warranty if there is a 3mm indentation.

Battery diagnostic is probably low yield. Either the car will work or not. Usually if the repair shop find additional things that need to fix, they will go back to the insurance company and ask for mroe money.

My car is still in the shop awaiting parts. 1 of four structural parts have arrived. The other three still have no ETA. Per body shop, the battery tray, coolant lines, and mounting points for the battery tray are intact so they won’t be removing the tray. I convinced them to run PIWIS at the dealer prior to the HV deactivation and according to the dealer there were no faults. Coming upon 60 days and no repair timeline in sight.

Is your insurance paying for everything? I thought it would be the other driver's fault since he rear ended you.

Hopefully you got a nice rental.

We both have the same insurance. I filed through my policy and they are paying. I’m in a Rivian R1S.

Assuming no damage to the frame I would think this is repairable for under $25k USD. I don’t think this is a situation where they will total your car.

It goes without saying, but I’m glad that you were not hurt.
$25k - no chance, I got rear ended at a red light and the damage in my picture was over $25k (without PPF being reapplied)

Oh man was this AFTER the battery fiasco??
Yes lol, it was a about 10 weeks ago, an F350 hit the girl behind me and she shunted into me. Just one of those things unforunately. Repairs have taken over 6 weeks thus far, hoping to get it back this week at some point and then start the deminished value claim
