Rear light strip cracking

Hi. I have this strange problem with the rear light strip. See attached photo.

It appears to crack up in the center and along the bottom edge. There is no sign of any external damage.

I just wonder if any of you have had this problem, and if you got it fixed under warranty.

I dont think they will cover that. They will blame you for it end if you had nothing to do. Less than month in my 4s, leather in wheel started to crumble, i went to dealer to have them look at it, they said it wear and tear (in 1 month old car) that i caused. They did nothing .

Possibly a stress fracture related to an improperly bedded screw/holding tab or similar, maybe? If so you'd have a case for warranty repair.

Assuming nothing hit the car there, hard to imagine what else might have caused this - best of luck with dealer but def. have them assess it at very least.

My first thought was vandalism.

Then I saw you are in Norway, which has extreme temperature from freezing cold to warm, particularly when parking the car inside. Did your car freeze over at any point during winter?

Thermal fractures on glass have a right angle crack leading from the edge of the glass, then further fractures that deviate from there.

Perhaps it's a thermal fracture and the horizontal cracks simply followed the direction of the seal on the glass. It does have the tell-tale perfect right angle crack.

Be interesting to know what the dealer thinks.

No joke, we bought a 2019 CPO Macan a couple years ago, there was a dead spider in the left rear tail light….it must’ve grown up once inside the light. Long story short, after the dealer telling me a tale of woe about having to remove the left rear quarter panel to replace the light, I simply said, “Oh well, that’s too bad, when’s it gonna be done?”. They did it in a day. I would say something….it’s worth a shot.

I contacted the dealership and sent them this photo. They say they’ll replace it. When I go there, I’ll ask them if this is a known issue and what causes it.

It's plastic, not glass.
Plastic doesn't do that.
I presume it's mounted under stress and eventually it broke.
