Having trouble with my Porsche Taycan! Dashboard shows “Right charging port impaired” (see pic). Never even use led it before. It suddenly pops up Tried cleaning & resetting? 198 mi range left, but worried. Anyone else face this? Tips or should I hit up Porsche service? #PorscheTaycan #EVProblems #HelpNeeded [Image attached]

Happened to me with the left port today. It was half open after I unplugged and pulled out of the garage. Not sure what happened. Got it closed and restarted the car. Message went away so I am chalking it up to a glitch.

Happens often with my car. It's a pain in the ass. It usually resolves by itself when locking up the car for a few hours.

Note.
I don't think it necessarily means the port itself is physically 'impaired' I think it just means it can't actually charge.

It happens regularly on mine ,either can’t open or opens halfway. Had both replaced and still happens.. nearly cost me a trip away but Porsche managed to get me a loan car. Along with the heater and car play connections it’s one of the idiosyncrasies of the taycan !

Got the same fault today (left charging port impaired) and Porsche assistance (AA in UK) came in but couldn’t help so said it needs to go to dealer. Is that the best course of action ?

Switch off / switch on or disconnecting the battery didn’t help. Note that the weather in UK today was very wet. Could that be a trigger ?

I would say dealer visit.

I got the message, and my car had the manual charge port covers (which were working fine).

For me it wasn't that the port was actually physically impaired, it was that the charging port wasn't working and needed a new port installed.

So 'charging port fault' would have been a more suitable warning for me.

The Porsche dealer updated the software for the on board charger and this solved the issue.

The issue of “Left charging port impaired” keeps happening intermittently. Annoyingly when it happens on motorway you can’t charge on DC fast charging as the left port doesn’t open.

I have now left my J1.1 Taycan with 2 different dealerships but nobody can find a problem. Have you had a similar issue ? If so what was the fix ?

I still got the issue. Dealer says it’s working as intended… 😳😅 very annoying when driving long distances.

had this recently on my J1.2. Actually the left port was stuck part way open but the error message said right port. Apparently that is common (probably a UK right-hand drive weirdness).

Each time it happened I was able to get the port back into action - instructions are on this forum somewhere - basically power off, wait a bit, power on, use control on the screen to open port, grab port as it moves which causes it to reset.

The OPC ordered in a replacement charging port and after they repaired it has been working fine.

I had this problem for several months, starting when my car was new. I read all the forum postings I could find about it while it was going on, and I don't remember finding any where this problem was fixed by any software updates. Eventually after several visits and a lot of loaner-Macan driving, my dealer replaced the charging port door assembly and that fixed it. It has not recurred, for me.

It's pretty clear from the number of people who have reported this here that there's some kind of design flaw in the powered door, related to the limit switches. If you're unlucky enough to get a door assembly with the flaw, you'll see this intermittent half-open behavior. You can force the door to reset by blocking it when it's closing, but at least in my case that got more difficult after the J1.2s got their big software update starting in late 2024, because after that the door would stop half-way while opening, instead of while closing.

I don't know why so many dealers seem to be unable to cope with this problem, and keep repeating that it'll be fixed by some software update or by resetting the door limits using PIWIS. It won't. Is this Porsche being unwilling to admit that there's a problem? Is it dealers not wanting to argue with the mothership? It's not a simple repair - the front door has to be removed - so maybe that has something to do with it. It's also not a trivial problem, obviously, since it can prevent you from being able to charge. Frustrating.
