I have a 2021 RWD with 21” P Zeros which is very smooth & quiet. I do have the panoramic glass roof but was unaware the glass roof is quieter than the solid metal roof. Can anyone confirm this is true since I’ve never driven a Taycan with a steel roof. In fact I haven’t driven any Porsche Boxster, 911 or Taycan since 2021 that didn’t have a glass roof or a convertible top. My Taycan compared to any Porsche convertible I’ve owned is night & day quieter as you would expect but I thought the solid metal roof would be better insulated & quieter than the panoramic glass roof.
Pano roof has an insulation layer which reduces noise.

Thanks! I had no idea. I got lucky getting the panoramic roof then. We couldn’t be happier with our Taycan.
It is so much quieter than our Boxster was.

21’s are louder than 19/20 and do you have insulated glass?

Went from insulated glass on a 24q8 etron to non insulated on a 25 Taycan and it’s louder in the Taycan.

Noise depends a great deal on the tires....I find Michelin Pilot Sport 4S's are noisy, especially as they wear. I am currently using Goodyear Ultra Grip winter tires and I have found them amazingly quiet.
The winter softer rubber compounding helps a lot. It really makes the EV silence become real, especially add to the enjoyment of the Burmester audio system.

Window closed position possibly needs re-learned to ensure a good seal against the door frame. There is a procedure for doing this in the Owner’s Manual.
Thanks, yea I tried stuff and Porsche as well.
They fiddled with it for 3 hours before giving it back to me telling me they would need it for a full day or more. No loaners means I took the car home ;)

This is a multidimensional problem.

I have a new 25 CT and drove it off the lot with 21 inch summers. Very loud road noise. Non-insulated glass.

I switched out to 19 inch winter tires and had a reduction of 90% of the road noise.

I also suffer from the corner of each front window, making noise when fully rolled up. Tapping down briefly quiets the cabin. I’ll raise this concern with the dealership.

How do you know if the panoramic glass roof is insulated or not. I see no reference to insulated glass on the panoramic roof option in my 2021 build.
It sounds like your 2025 is the panoramic glass without insulation.
Either way I’m very happy with the interior noise level in my 2021 RWD since I’m comparing the noise level to my Boxster convertible which are inherently noisy.
I switched from P-Zero summer tires to Michelin summer tires on my Boxster and didn’t really notice any difference.
I need to replace my tires later this year so I am considering switching to the Michelin Pilot Sport.

I have used Michelim Sport Pilots on my 911S and Taycan 4S since they were marketed, and love them...however, as they wear I find that they get noisy.

I do love the way the Michelin tire ride as well as wear. Since I don’t put more than 4K to 5K miles per year on any of my cars I usually replace them every 4-5 years as the reach their lifetime which I believe is 6 years from manufacture.
I’ve always had great support from Michelin whenever a tire fails within the 6 years. They don’t even prorate the tire that failed, they just replace it.

What wheels/brakes do you have?

I recently switched from a J1 to a J1.2 and I notice a new sound I haven't had on my previous two Taycans.

There are many differences from my previous cars though; this is my first with power charge port doors, and the previous car had the noise-insulating glass.

My sound is kind of wind-driven with a metallic edge to it, audible over 60mph or so, and increases with speed. It seems to be transmitted up the steering column, as the sound is perceptibly quieter if I move up closer to the windshield.

It's bugging me, as I didn't have this on the other two cars.

Insulated glass doesn't reduce noise coming from the road via the tyres as the noise resonates through the footwells.

The footwells are made from a felt-like material which may be used to mitigate noise/vibration.

When you drive them back to back there is less noise of all kind - road noise, exterior noise and so on. Just quieter overall.

This is because with the noise insulated glass the glass absorbs much more of the sound and causes fewer reflections. So it dampens all sounds. Higher frequencies are damped more than low rumble, but even low rumble is lower.
Specifically it takes out the "hum", which is just 2nd and 3rd order reflections bouncing around the cabin.

The difference is massive when you try two of the same cars with the same size wheels and tyres back to back. I drove the exact same route on the same day and the difference was enough that I would never get a CT/ST without the insulated glass.
