Nice mod. My old mechanic used to work at Porsche in Germany, he designed the solution of the tension chains coming loose with a simple oil reservoir. The patented it and they fired him, which is why they had the oil lines outside the valve covers on the 911s for many years...

Send this design to them!!!

Great ingenuity, hats off.

I was DC charging my j1.2 at the weekend and it was hot here in Scotland, so battery cooling kicked in and both the front fans were running at what sounded like full speed, like a hovercraft. Will remember this thread if I keep the car beyond warranty.

Possibly stupid question… how do I know if my fans are working properly or not?

First way I found was halfway back up France, the battery temp shot up half way through charging. A turtle appeared and charging power was limited. Took ages.

Once moving (very slow to accelerate in turtle with battery at 49 Deg) the airflow helped and between Troyes and the Chunnel temps returned to normal.

Charged again at chunnel but I kicked the wheel arch and the fan woke up. So p*ssed of with the German junk.

One owner car, fresh from OPC (Shytner Silverstone) had failed to supercharge at Teslas (Yellow dial of desth over 60% SoC), took three attempts to CCS charge at most DC stations until I turned off plug and charge option thanks to folks here) and it failed on the hotel AC charger every night.

So on return with my first Porsche (junker) under warranty it had a new AC charger, two new fans and they're still umming about the 150kW step up charger. This is under 4 months from receiving approved Porsche used 2yo car. Nice.

Should've taken the Tesla. Would've been a trivial Swiss ski trip not the German junk of worry. See why they're cheap. If a Tesla looks well made compared to your product, you have major problems.

Definitely not what I expected from a Porsche product. Exactly what I expected from Shytner though.

You probably have the new design already.

Turn the wheels so that the louvers become accessible.
You can turn the fans with a stick or something.
The louvers are open enough to stick something through it.
Or, when fast charging the fan on the right side should run at some point.
The left one should run when the motors are hot.

Brilliant McGyvering a solution here!! ????
Best Mod I've seen, well done. Still limping mine along and cleaning out every couple of months in the winter (uk mudfest ) but now outer ring of the fan blade is rubbing on the ext housing and the bearing rock so these are now spent after almost 4 yrs / 33k miles. Worst design I've seen. ....so will be perusing warranty replacement then do the mesh mod also.

Warranty replacement should come with new design.

I asked my dealer to do mine, so I should know sometime end of this week for sure.

OP remedy is good.
👍

Still ridiculous that you have to design and make your own remedies out of cheap plastic flower pots - for badly designed basic engineering on a £100,000+ car!!

Is anyone aware if these fans can be replaced without removing the front bumper? I have one that is stuck solid and I accessed it by removing the wheel and arch liner, however It's beyond freeing up. I'd be keen to replace it but not really up for pulling the bumper off etc.

No they can't.
The two top bolts are on the other side, indeed only accessible by removing the bumper and headlights.
But then again, it's not hard to do, it's just a lot of work.

Remember to let the car go into sleep mode before pulling stuff off, otherwise you need recoding (headlights, fans, camera, night vision, and cooling slats).

How does one do that? Pull 12v?
