Leased a 2025 Taycan 4, the funnest and best performing sports car I've ever owned. It's absolutely the coolest driving car ever. The downside is that it runs on Windows 95. Hope they address that someday.

Is it likely that if I get a car that is 2-3 years old that all the common issues would have already occurred and been fixed?
Most issues in the J1 Taycan are known and either fixed by recalls (eg the heater units were recalled, in most cases before they failed) or irritating-but-manageable interventions (eg 22kW chargers fail: tow to dealer, change for 11kW unit).

However if you can afford it, get a J1.2 Taycan (the next generation) which will give you some improvements in architecture, especially charging speed, and has got some learnings from the J1 addressed by changes to the design.

Thanks for all your comments. So it seems get a 2022 model year onwards. Better to buy from Porsche with a warranty (to include a loan car) which I should extend. Haggle. Don't worry about range.

I have a 2021 4S and it has been flawless except for normal recalls and one Heater replacement. I would extend your search to include the 2021 MY.

Simply the best car I've ever owned...

I can only comment on my experience with a J2 4S 12 mth old with 13k miles in the UK. Best car I’ve ever owned (come from 530e which was then the “best car I’ve owned” 😊). Zero faults so far. Ave around 300miles range at 100%. Practical, comfortable and super fast. Mega cheap to run compared with petrol. Absolutely and definitely no regrets. Hope this helps. 😊
Actually, I'd just add one really small niggle.

Changing from Cruise to limiter and back is a real fiddle and distracting. My previous BMW was a one button press without taking your focus off the road. I guess it's just a Porsche thing as I think it's the same on other models.

It may be I've just got to get used to it but I'm sure it could be made slicker.

But that's really the only negative I can say. It's an awesome car. My only regret is that I didn't but one sooner!!!

Buy the Sport Turismo, it is very practical and very good looking.
Best car ever as a daily/family car but also as a sports car (look, handling and driving experience). I still couldn't find better.
However the Taycan had/have 2 big reliability issues: the heater that can fail which they fixed with a recall and the 22kw OBC charger. The 2nd is not fixed yet, they kept replacing the failing units with the same one but it looks like that there is a new model being tested. If that's confirmed, they will probably do a recall.
Very likely that I will keeping this car for a very long time.

My advice: if you are going with Taycan, then buy J1.2…of course, with warranty.
I would not recommend you J1.1 (had CT4 MY21).

It does surprise me that anyone who comes on this forum asking whether they should buy a Taycan, actually goes ahead after reading through the busiest threads.

Plenty enough to at least give people 2nd thoughts I would have guessed?

Certainly without a lengthy Porsche warranty.

I have owned my Taycan 2020 4S since new in 2020.
I love the car and hav e had NO problems.
I divide my time between the Taycan, a '09 997.2, and a 2012 Cayenne.
Currently I am waiting impatiently for a 718 E.

I currently own a 2018 BMW 840d - great car. I've owned many great cars including a Cayman. Thinking of buying a Taycan - but like everyone I've heard bad stories. Most of my journeys are short - running around town and sometimes a round trip of about 180 miles. I also drive from the UK to mid Germany every two months. I would look to buy a 2021 or 2022 4S from Porsche - so would get a two year warranty. Would like to get them to give me three years. I would love to hear some thoughts. Am I crazy to sell a beautiful diesel coupe for a potentially problematic, costly EV?

I would say so yes. If you narrow down your options to a car you are thinking of pulling the trigger on, get the VIN and ask @ct14garage very nicely if they would mind sending you the service report. This way you can see everything that has ever been done with that car, including recalls.

Anything coming from Porsche Approved Used should already have all of the recalls etc done.

Don’t be afraid to haggle hard, it’s definitely a buyers market and there are deals to be had. Haggle for a discount off list, more contribution if getting finance, make sure every tiny cosmetic thing is dealt with for free, and get as much warranty, Porsche Connect Plus, Porsche Charging Service etc thrown in as you can manage.

I’m super happy with mine and feel I ended up with an insane amount of car for the money.
No, you're not crazy. If you make short trips a Taycan is perfect.

J1.1 Taycan Turbo S, Incoming: 718 GT4
Country flag
Despite the regular moaning on this forum which occasionally causes me to doubt even my own sanity in purchasing my '21 Turbo S, every time I drive it I'm in love with it again and spend a few days away from the negativity enjoying that feeling!

Admittedly I'll probably look to offload it before the battery warranty is up in late 2029 but that can be said of any EV.

Mainly use it for short hops but in the summer I took it on a 2,500 km blast around the Norwegian fjords whereupon it delivered some great memories with Trollstigen etc. Got me from Stockholm to Åndalsnes an hour ahead of plan. Hit some charging speeds of 260kwh which I'd never seen before. Had all my camping gear in the back, food, folding kayak, cooking, even an electric mountain board. Good times.

For me and my use case I think it's a great car.

Thanks everyone. I've seen a car with Porsche that I like that has a two year approved Porsche warranty. Also several on Auto Trader at other independent dealers. Obviously I can check that all recalls are done but I would definitely want to get a good warranty - are there any out there that are worth getting that don't have a million exclusions?

My best advice would just jump from one cpo lease to another. Always in warranty and usually turns out cheaper than buying it.
