In theory an EV should be a more comfortable place to be than a regular ICE car – able to run its air conditioning and keep the 12V system topped up for long periods. However, the Taycan appears to shut itself down abruptly every 20 minutes or so – when not moving.

If caught in the situation described in the link – the constant shutdowns – greatly reduces comfort levels in the Taycan if it were in the same situation.

Is there any way to prevent this?

My iPace does that after 30mins unless you tap the brake pedal, does the Taycan give the same prompt? No good if you are asleep though. There are some enthusiast apps for the iPace (WattCat and MyPace) that allow some use of the API via OBD. I have IOS so use MyPace and that allows a “Camper/Pet Mode” to keep the car awake. Wonder now there is stuff coming from Power Cruise Control if they could add that feature for Taycan?

Still, if someone who already has their car knows if it can be done as standard would be great to know. Unlikely to get that kind of weather here but could be useful for Glamping in the CT ?

Does it shut down when in gear, or only if you put it in "Park"? If the latter, perhaps an old Tesla camping workaround would work on a Taycan - put the car in Neutral and engage the parking brake manually. In a Tesla there is a service/towing menu on the computer screen where you can engage the parking brake, plus I think, but not 100% sure, the emergency braking procedure worked too - pressing and holding the Park button. This workaround is no longer needed since Tesla implemented "camping mode", but since Taycans don't have one, does the Taycan have any way to engage the parking brake while in Neutral?

Saw a Bjorn Nyland video where he did something similar on the sister Audi GT :

Somewhat convoluted way to get to the electronic parking brake in that vehicle, is there an equivalent in the Porsche software?

I have not tried this, but what about stopping the car and giving the brake a hard press setting the Hold function? The car should think that you are in the car and actively waiting for traffic or whatever the hold up is....................maybe?

Interesting - never noticed or experienced this yet.

I recently dropped my wife at the front door of a grocery store not realizing she had the key fob in her purse. I was able to drive to a parking spot without it. Afraid it wouldn’t let me put back in drive if I put it in park I put it in hold, eventually it put itself in park after some time. Not sure it that was because I didn’t have the fob or if it does that just after an extended hold time.

This works. I did this waiting in line for over three hours and the car never shut off. It also only lost 2% of battery and I was listening to the Burmester the whole time with the AC on “eco”.

I wouldn’t advise this, particularly if you are attempting to nap during that time. This is how that early Taycan in the UK drove off an inclined driveway and had it’s bad accident flipping over — not realizing the car’s hold function was still engaged and accidentally pressing the throttle. If you doze off and your foot presses the throttle that could be ugly. Maybe if in Neutral with Hold rather than Drive? Haven’t tried that to see if it works. Ultimately, unless you are sleeping it’s not that difficult to push the power button every thirty minutes to turn the car back on. I don’t think you would lose heat if you turned it right back on after auto power down.

I was in a moving car line. Every 5-10 minutes I had to pull up. I guess that doesn’t prove it’d work past 30 minutes.

Maybe timing it location. Getting a test today for my daughter and no appointment at CVS or Walgreens near me for days.

Afaik, it goes to Park mode after 10 or 15 minutes, then it shuts down after another 5 (or something like that).
few weeks ago, i was waiting about 30minutes in a jam because of car accident and that’s my experience.

Perhaps the strategic use of charging timers, but only selecting climate control, throughout a time of sleeping while stranded might be the safest bet to keep it warm/cool and not risk disengaging the drive hold. Of course I’ve never tried it, but I don’t see why setting a departure time for every hour you plan to sleep wouldn’t work. It seems like that would trick the car into keeping it climate controlled for an extended non movement period.

I guess it must just be because you're smarter than everyone else
must be, I wouldn't spend 3 hours for a test when I can get the same thing in minutes.
do you shun 350kw chargers in favor of L2 units as well?
