After reading some of the stories here, I added an inexpensive precut AliExpress PPF to my pano roof. The local Chicago installer (highly recommended, PPF expert who does Porsches at dealers with XPEL) said it was surprisingly good quality. It had a slight tint, so that was another reason I did it. Given the inexpensive PPF, it was well worth it.

I got the Black tint one and it looks like a darkish tint was applied. I can still see out, but it's less bright. I'm happier the roof is protected a bit.

I was going to try to install it myself as it's just a mostly flat piece, but I didn't want to mess it up and just paid a PPF small business (as mentioned in my post)

I think insurance called it a glass repair but it’s certainly more involved than a windshield.

Youtube is a good source to watch a DIY for PPF install. For rectangular pieces, IMO it's worth doing yourself (with a friend's help).

I picked up my chip and subsequent crack within the first week of ownership. I didn't even have a chance to apply my PPF which I already had on hand.

Thus far my crack has not spread but it's definitely visible, so unfortunately I do have to replace the roof before I sell the car. I'm just waiting for additional chips and cracks to occur either on my front windshield or the roof and perform all the work together.

there's a chance when they lift the windshield or the roof, they can damage the other, bc the two panels of glass join at a seam. Might as well lift both out at the same time.
