Stone chip on glass roof

So, more than a little frustrated (and concerned) when I saw a stone ship (approx 10mm) on the front end of the glass roof. About 2 inches from the top of the windscreen. Did the repair today using a standard resin windscreen repair kit and somewhat happier. Following this I’d recommend, and plan to get, the front 12 inches at least PPF’d to at least try and avoid the same. Attached a before and after if interested.

Repair pic looks really good for a chip that size, hopefully it holds.

The fragility of the pano roof is one of the main reasons I opted for steel overhead.

I think insurance called it a glass repair but it’s certainly more involved than a windshield.

I have the glass rider on my insurance and it covers all glass. Saved my tens of thousands over the years, fairly cheap too. Ive changed 3 windshields over the last 5 months, never the actual pano roof but my agent tells me it's covered too.

It has happened to 2 of my 3 Taycans and I expect it will eventually happen to this one.

Not sure flaw is the right word.

Risk for sure. But flaw would suggest a manufacturing defect.

But no glass is rock proof. PPF on the roof isn’t a bad idea if concerned.

Was a problem on new cars where the roof cracked on its own (2023 or earlier from memory) due to flexing of the body. Very expensive to replace.

Nice job filling the chip, I always keep a kit and UV torch handy to catch them before frost gets in. If you are going for ppf I would do the whole glass roof, flying stones can land anywhere
