The key fob method that works for me is: press to lock, wait 1 second, then press to lock again. It’s not a double click like on a computer mouse.

The second press has to occur within 3 seconds according to the manual. What is left out of the manual is that the second press cannot be immediate….

Does this work if we leave the car on so the AC continues to run for the individual still inside? I can try it out, but am under the impression that you can't lock it with the fob if the car is still on.

You are right, but you can still have pre-conditioning going with the car OFF. If it's people you leave inside, they can lock the car from the inside.

Preconditioning only works for 5 minutes or so and shuts off. Agreed that you can lock from the inside but my mother in law has to sit in the back seat so she's not able to reach to lock button. However, neither of this is relevant to the response I made to the other post, which was that I don't think using the fob is possible if the car is on. I've advised my wife to untick that checkbox on the PCM before exiting the car to turn off the sensor then she can lock it.

You can turn in on for longer before you exit the car (use battery screen).

I nobody sitting in the front passenger seat, just enable the pre-conditioning before exiting, then lock the car in the off state (and turn off the interior sensing either though a screen of fob).

I highlighted the relevant part you were looking for below. ;)

Hopefully everyone already knows this, but I just wanted to remind people to absolutely not underestimate just how quickly a car gets dangerously hot even in relatively mild summer weather. It literally takes minutes to become unbearable, if not outright lethal for most dogs.

I think it always goes for 60 mins, but double check on the app (for the sake of your dog). I use it all the time when I go into a store and want the AC to keep running while I shop.

hey bob... sure someone has told you this as haven't read all replies. when you turn the car off, on the PCM it says 'turn internal surveillance off' .. if yo turn it off it stops dog babies setting off alarms etc xxx hopefully that's what you are asking ... I get exited on the rare occasion I think I can help lol xxx
Mine doesn’t prompt me. It just says goodbye and don’t forget your phone.

Mine activates for 60 minutes every time. I don’t think it can be changed. This method works every time for me.

The other method you mentioned of leaving the car on, doesn’t work, because the car like to turn itself off when locked and the key is away from the car. There is a thread on this forum about “How do you use the start/stop button.”

I can confirm that you can’t lock the car when it is on. When we take the two keys on a trip and I go out first, the car doesn’t switch if automatically like normally because still a key inside. If I try to lock with the fob it doesn’t work. I wonder why, think about the second key and have to manually switch it off with the button in the car.

Manually switching it off with the button has this issue too... So, when we have 2 keys with us - mine in my pocket, and my wife's in her purse. It's beyond me how it often happens, but I manage to park the car, exit, and close the door and my wife is still sitting in her seat and just preparing to get out. So, when that happens, it detects a key is in the car and turns itself back on. So, if you manually turn off the car and close the door with your second key inside, it'll turn itself back on.
