Anecdotal comments by, probably 90% non-scientific method, of a one driver, one location, one car "data" over a short period are obviously worthless and having so many is one of the reasons the internet is such a pit of misinformation and bollox.
IMHO of course.
I just go by how my own range in my Taycan varies drastically from the experiences of others -- journalist testers or real owners... Just a curiosity thing to see other's real-world driving experiences. Derek mentioned that his new GTS has much better range than his old one, so I'm interested in that real-world difference, as he owned both gen-1 and gen-2 versions of the same car -- so not a trivial range figure, assuming that he drives similarly from car 1 to car 2.

My wife and I both have EVs. She never drives my car, but I drive hers from time to time, and recently a little more when my Taycan was out of commission due to heating failures. I can tell you that as soon as I do one drive in my wife's eTron, the estimated mileage immediately and noticeably drops. I mean literally me getting in her car, seeing 200+ miles of estimated range at 80% SoC, I drive 20 miles, come back and charge back to 80%, and it now showing 179miles of range. For reference, my Taycan right now shows 177miles of range at 85% SoC. Oh, wait, while typing this, the range just went up to 178miles (app said "Just updated" when showing the 177 miles, so if you trust the German software engineering, it literally changed as I was typing this). Oh wait, it just went back to 177miles, I guess the car cannot decide for sure (note: it is currently NOT charging, EVSE is showing as off).

Bottom line, the range estimate is a very rough guestimate. No different than ICE car range estimates (I was in ICE rentals for few weeks, estimated ranges varied quite a bit, up and down).
you miss my point... my point is that we're talking a single driver (Derek) moving from a gen-1 GTS to a gen-2 GTS.... so his range difference could be pretty useful to know, as he probably didn't change his driving habits from one car to the next...

The range estimate is almost always pessimistic in my experience.
Today in cold weather at 100% it shows 205 miles, I travel the 205 miles uphill not exceeding 65 mph and arrive with 10 miles left, on the downhill I would arrive with 20 miles left.
It'll be very cold at the end, so I may drive normal speed and check out the IONNA 400 kW CCS/NACS chargers in Reading, MA or the ones at the just opened Portsmouth, NH location.
I'd be trading range anxiety for congestion anxiety, but availability looks promising.

I feel like I’ve provided all the data I have, which is more than most due to my data logging habit.

Have I answered the question?

I’ll continue to monitor under normal daily use and see how it shakes out.

So you say that the range is greatly extended in your gen-2 GTS, but then (unless I missed something in this already-long thread) you don't quantify that at all. Please give us some numbers to bolster your improved-range claim.
He’s right. Lower consumption + higher battery power gives more range.
My numbers for the same trips A to B (260km in one direction, mostly on highway, where i can drive 150km/h (and more 😇).
Average consumption with:
- CT4 J1.1: 23-24 kwh/100km ( from A-B) and 25-26 kwh/100km (B-A)
- 4S j1.2: 20 kwh/100km (A-b) and 21 kwh/100 km (B-A)

On the Weissach, I'm getting over 300miles in normal driving. It's pretty impressive
I don’t know what Wissach means, but with J1.2, i’m doing 480km during winter time… over 520 last summer/autumn. I’ve never made over 420km with j1.1…. During my 4th year i was making up to 350 km only at summer, and below 300 winter time.

@DerekS, I hope if it makes you feel any better that you made the right choice by getting yourself another Taycan, since the latest on the 718/Boxter has been confirmed, no EV variant for you or no one else any time soon - which is exactly what I was reporting to the forum since I visited the mothership in ATL. I learned to trust my dealer GM who has been in this business a long time, going to all sorts of corporate test drives, and knows his sources and would not speculate unless he has reliable info. What happens to the investment and prototypes that we have been seeing. I guess they will be boxed up like the Tesla Roadster.

I thought the latest news was that they were making both, not ICE only? The sequence being:
-EV only
-EV only + ICE for the top trim(s)
-EV + ICE across the whole line (latest news)

I echo Derek's comments. I do a lot of miles, same journeys, and drove 55k miles in my J1.1 4S ST and have covered 29k in my J1.2 Turbo ST, range is c. 30-35% more in the real world in my J1.2. Half of the improvement is the bigger battery and half is the new battery chemistry / improved efficiency. Combined with the faster DC charging, higher curve and lower battery temp for optimal DC charging speeds, J1.2 is a BIG improvement for long trips.

Do you notice on the j1.2 that when the HVAC is heating the cabin you can hear the system's coolant circulation?
I'm not sure if it's that my hearing is sharp or 2 of my cars have slightly louder setup but i find it pretty noticeable during cold days, on the J1.1 i never heard it this loud.

@DerekS how does the suspension feel compare? Thx

Great vehicle, hope you enjoy it. Did you notice any improvements on the suspension? Porsche claims new air suspension should have an improvement on comfort, especially on city/low speed driving. Curious if it is noticeable.

I'll let you know when I actually get to drive it! It's in the shop awaiting brake sensors to complete the PSCB replacement. (See my "slight scraping" thread for details there.)

Someone once told me "You don't see the front end of the car when you are driving it" and I was able to buy an ugly to me at the time front refresh model (S550 Mustang 18+). I eventually came around to loving it.
Not quite on the j1.2. You can see the harsh line on the front fender while driving. The crease really breaks up the smooth curve of the original mission E design.

I continue to be impressed with the improvements.

This charge has to be my fastest ever, which I did before dropping off the car for the brake job.

Even though I’ve had an EV for over 4 years, I’ve never DC charged.

Whats “overhead?”
