So I just bought the Teslatap 60amp mini. Why…I’m not really sure…I guess I’m just caught up in this charging anxiety while on a road trip. So please help me…I can’t charge at Tesla Super Chargers but I can charge at a destination charger. How long would it take to charge my car at a Tesla Destination Charger? Would it be the same as charging at home on my 240v?

when I charge on Electrify America (150 or 350) it’s like 30 minutes. Would it be the same if I stopped at a Tesla Destination Charger?

Tesla Destination Chargers are no different than Porsche L2 Chargers (PMC+/PMCC) - they are 240 volt and range in amps from 16 amps to 80 amps - most are in the 30-60 amp range (70-80%). Charging speed will be mostly equivalent to anyone charging at home on a NEMA 14-50/6-50 plug via PMC+/PMCC.

The Taycan’s maximum charge rate is 11/12 kW - which at 240 volts translates to 48 amps - this requires a 60 amp breaker - a number of times I’ve run into Tesla Destination chargers that are 48 amp chargers and therefore you need a 60 amp TeslaTap for maximum safety.

Many many businesses over the years have installed Tesla Chargers and in some cases they only have Tesla Chargers (Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur is one such example) - so if you are traveling with an EV and want to charge at some businesses the only way to charge there is if you have a TeslaTap.

here is a link to a partial list of Tesla Destination chargers in the western US

having a TeslaTap lets you charge at these otherwise in-access-able L2 AC 240 V chargers with the business owner’s permission. you would mostly use them for overnight charging at a hotel you might be staying at.

Fast charging during the day while you’re traveling - and slower L2 charging overnight at your destination via J-1772 chargers (standard) or Tesla chargers via TeslaTap.

As noted TeslaTap does not allow compatbility with Tesla Superchargers - that would be impossible given that the DC high voltage connections are phsyically separate connectors outside the 5-connectors pattern for J-1772 compatibility.
