I really, really like big gaping front grilles. Same reason I love Aston Martin. I never was in love with the front of base 911s, but the 992 made it way better and the front end of GT cars will always win in my book.

EVs will never be at the top for me due to the chase for efficiency (And i really don't like the blacked out "fake grilles" on some models), but I do believe it is the best looking EV. We were actually looking at Panameras before we settled on Taycans. Even more than the headlights, it was the low wide profile that was the show stopper. No other EV on the market compares. The closest is maybe a Plaid.

Curious if that’s a controversial statement or if I’m the only one who thinks this.

It may not be as true for the 2025+ models, but I think the 20-24 Taycan looks better than the 911. It’s always turned my head since it came out.

They’re both good looking, but I just think it’s the Taycan headlights that put it over the top.

Your thoughts?

And if that’s the case, I think it’s the best looking car of any of the current models (at least from the front, other angles I could be convinced otherwise)

I agree completely. The Taycan front & rear ends are simply gorgeous. The new 911 has a gorgeous rear end but the front is tired & dated.

I own a 2020 TRaycan 4S and love its looks.
However, I understand the the .2 improved the front aerodynamics by eliminating turbulence around the edges of the left/right vertical slots.

911 looked cool in 2006 or around then, when this look was new.

It's been 2 decades in which 911 has looked 90% the same, with slightly different styling here and there.

So any newer car looks cooler than the 911, simply because it's been the same for decades.

It starts being absurd when Porsche tries to charge Ferrari design money for the same reused mass produced design they've had for decades.

Was very excited for the 718 EV, which might have finally brought new design to the 2 door Porsche family. But seems like they want to keep it "traditional", because that's what the market wants apparently.

Taycan j1.1 is definitely the best design Porsche has had since the 918 in my opinion. The designer is now at Xiaomi.

They could have also made a more efficient motor, instead of destroying the design if they cared so much about efficency

Xiaomi has a more efficent motor, and they haven't been long in the auto industry.
Lucid has a more efficient motor. And they sell it...
Hell, they could have used the more efficient motors from Rimac, which they own...

I have a 991.2 & a 2025 Taycan. I wish Porsche did not change the original look of the Taycan headlights in 2025. Nonetheless, saying a Taycan is better looking than the iconic 911 is blasphemy to the Porsche purist. That's like saying Lois Griffen (Family Guy) is better looking than Betty Rubble.

911 looks like a turtle. It's getting uglier. Taycan is way better looking.

OP is right, but with the exception of the 993. IMO the best looking Porsche ever made. And maybe also the 918 and Carrera GT are also better looking, but way out of budget to consider them in my best looking Porsche debate

911 is beautiful, but doesn't look exotic IMO. I cant think of a sports car with round headlights that looks exotic.
The front of the 718 looks more exotic than a 911. CGT (which looks like a Boxter) is sexy for many reasons, including not having round headlights.

Taycans lines, headlights make it look better than a 911. If Taycan was an ICE coupe, more people would agree.

And that’s what makes it unique IMO. A sports car that can obliterate literally almost anything, yet be simple, still beautiful and don’t scream “look at me” like other ICE sports cars do. Most enthusiasts will pick the 911 based in looks over almost any other ICE car because of that. Deep inside, they just know.

On Taycan vs 911. If you ask someone that doesn’t know anything about cars, I’m sure they will pick the Taycan 8 times out of 10. But you have to remove all biases out of the system to achieve that.
