All, I'm considering a new EVSE now that Porsche is offering to pay for it. One of the cons I continually see about the ChargePoint Home Flex in comparison reviews is that it "requires" WIFI to charge. If preferred, can this EVSE just be set to dumb and charge off my existing Taycan profile and timer, like I'm doing with my PMCC currently?

I searched the forums and couldn't find what looks like a simple answer. Maybe my search was too simple.

Thanks in advance

Any EVSE can be set to 'dumb' mode - that is, if there is no wifi to connect to, it should still do as it's told by the car, and let the current flow?

I've no experience with ChargePoint (the home ones), but plenty of people here do. Mine's an Autel, and I'm using it in 'dumb' mode - the connectivity is only for me to see the charging sessions from my phone.

Taycan works well with Chargepoint - just don't use any of it's timing features - having two separate devices attempt schedule things tends to make them argue with each other…

several forum member's have successfully used Chargepoint EVSE's for years at this point.

just don't get too clever.

Thanks, it's nice to see it in writing.

I also plan to look further into the Tesla wall charger to see if PCNA considers it a covered 3rd party EVSE.

My notice said, “If you need help selecting a new charger consult with your dealer.” It said “If”. I don’t need help, I ordered the Tesla universal charger, and will seek reimbursement. If Porsche has a problem with it they should have a safe charger, and not one that has been overheating for years.

I have a Chargepoint which I have been using for a while with both Taycan and a Q8 e-tron.

I have had it setup with profile/timer on Taycan and nothing on the Chargepoint.

I currently have the general profile on the Taycan at 80% and the Chargepoint set to charge between 9pm and 3pm to get utility rebates. I can plug before 9pm, will get error message but will start charging at 9p. Always done obviously before 3pm.

I just got a (Porsche is supposed to pay for!) Chargepoint charger and can confirm from actual experience it works just fine with my Taycan and the charger in dumb mode!

I did purchase a ChargePoint Flex. If I turn off the car onboard charger timer the ChargePoint system takes over and provides graphic feedback charge information. This is true for my Taycan and Audi etron. If I use onboard charger timer I don't get the detailed feedback in the ChargePoint system. The ChargePoint seems to be a very useable system and well designed.
