Having talked personally to other owners and various service personnel, it is becoming clear that from mid 2023 onwards (model year 2024) the Taycan is proving to be consistently reliable. Moral? If buying secondhand, look for Taycans manufactured after mid 2023.

My 2021 4S which I had from new had no issues other than the mandated recalls and a heater replacement in 2 years.

My 2023 GTS ST I had from new had no issues other than the mandated recalls and a heater replacement in 2 years.

There is no specific model year that is or isn't reliable.
My (early) 2020 has been reliable from day one.
Now on 46.000 km.

Especially cuz it has the 11 kW OBC which is way more reliable than the 22 kW OBC (which wasn't even available yet at that time).

What exactly do you mean by "reliable"?
Like, does the car take you wherever you like at any time you like?
Or do you mean issues/weak points?

I've had some "issues" but nothing serious, more like bug-fixing and rear wing alignment.

Weak points are: HV-heater and 22 kW OBC.
Other than that there are no common issues, although there are some lemons but that happens with every brand/model.

My CT4 MY21 had no issues than recalls (heater, breaks) for the first three years.
During 4th year, several problems with charging unit (replaced twice) then yellow and red electrical faults… so i replaced it with 4S MY25 last August…and it’s huge improvement compared to MY21.. 🤷‍♂️

I don’t know if it’s coincidence or not: but first three years, i was charging on AC only (up to 22kw).
In 4th year, i was charging on DC (over 260kw) very often. Those yellow errors occured after DC charging, while red on during charging 🤯

MY23 or MY24 is not any different from MY20 or MY21.
If there were any earlier issues on MY20-21 then they are fixed by now.

If you want a newer one then it's J1.2 from MY25, as to whether it will be more reliable is a question of time, too early to say.

But this 2022 or 2023 or <insert year here> reliability myth is mostly perpetrated by those who have a the <insert year here> car, because for sure the one they bought must be the best one, and everyone even 1 year older is beneath them...

I have a MY26 and while it is for sure better technically than before the facelift, I have no idea if it will be more or less reliable than my MY22 was, time will tell.

2024 CT4 with almost 29,000 miles and no issues other than the recalls which were completed without any problems.

Define reliable.

My car, early 2020 / late 2019, never caught on fire or left me stranded.

However it has been for weeks in service for recalls, and there is always something to be recalled / fixed / replaced / updated on it, all under warranty, annoying never the less from a "premium" brand.

Getting close to that 100k km.

Wow. My luck must be all bad.

I own two Taycans.

My '20 Taycan 4s was pretty great for 5 years and then had a catastrophic battery failure. 3 months after vacationing at the dealership I got it back and it has been fine with a brand new battery at the 5.5 year mark.

my '25 Taycan 4s CT has had two separate events which rendered it either undriveable (a month before it could be returned to me) and then 2 months later it lost functionality of innodrive, lane keep assist, soft close doors and parking cameras. That took 2.5 months to repair.

So my sense is that reliability is on a one by one car basis BUT Taycan part support out of Germany is very poor. Perhaps its because the volumes they produce don't lend them to having an ample supply of parts for aftermarket support.

My 2025 TGT (J1.2) is now over 1 year old (16 676 km).
No issues at all needing workshop visits
Even the software has been almost 100% as well (couple of small glitches)

If I compare this to my old 2020 TT which I had 4 years (5 years when traded in) its like heaven, so Porsche has done a really good job before releasing the J1.2 (2025) cars

My 2021' 4S has been trouble free so far, 38,000 miles on the clock. All recalls done in time.

From what I am reading, the 2020 model has had more severe battery problems; I believe that I read somewhere in this forum that the battery tech in the 2020 is slightly different than the 2021 onwards. But can't be sure. Two things are certain:

1. avoid the 22kw charger;
2. keep porsche approved warranty on for as long as you keep the car;

Therefore, I don't think that choosing a '22 or '23 model adds more peace of mind, apart from the 8 year battery warranty which reasonably lasts longer than a '20 or a '21. MY 24 and 25 are a different deal - although, tbh, you'll see posts of MY24 and MY25 owners posting problems. Its not like Porsche sorted all the problems in their '25 model.
