Which Taycan?

Hi everyone, first time poster!

I have £100k to spend through my company for a full EV and originally was looking at the 4S with a few extras. Since I’ve started looking I’m now in a position to contribute a bit more of my own money (probably up to around £30k) and wonder if it’s worth getting a 4S with loads of extras or whether to go for a GTS/Turbo? Has anyone driven both and can say if it’s worth it from a performance perspective? Is it a noticeable difference between the 4S and Turbo? Also does anyone have any other differences that are worth noting between the two in terms of reliability, features, range and I guess just quirks or things that separate the two when it comes to ownership?

I have a test drive on Saturday and a chat with the Porsche Salesperson after but want to do a bit more homework before I go.

I think that will be considered to be the new sweet spot in the range potentially.

It all depends on your personal needs / wants.

My RWD was nearly £115k list, although i got a huge discount. It's amazing how the options mount up.

Can I ask, did you order brand new or did you buy a stock vehicle? Guessing the chances of a discount are a lot less likely if you order brand new?

The place to start is to build a 4S and a GTS and share your build codes for feedback with rationale for options you are choosing and questions about the ones you are not sure about. This will help you get educated by us (the owners) before you go to the dealer. Keep in mind dealers know very little vs. what we know here on the forum. I can help with endless tech specs between trims when you are ready for it.

I also would not dismiss a RWD and a new dual motor Taycan 4, since options can push you over your budget quickly.

It was a 2025 model in stock. December was the month of big discounts on certain cars, due the gov EV mandates.

There are still discounts to be had on stock cars, I don't know about factory orders.

I think there’s still advantages to it but I believe it’s changing at the end of March so I need to get something sorted in the next 6 weeks or so. Seems to be plenty of Taycans in stock so hopefully can get a good deal

Others probably feel differently though.
If I lived in a place without snow, probably would have just gotten the RWD.

You'll have to place an order to get a 4S optioned up with all the necessities though. At least in the US, I don't see dealer 4S inventory with PAR, RAS, etc. Maybe GTS fits into the sweet spot.

I think I’d kill myself in a RWD ?, might be test driving the RWD model though so happy to consider anything currently. Budget can slide either way too and also I think it depends how keen the dealers are to get rid of cars as to what discounts they can offer

Find something you like in stock, be aggressive on the price, and do your best to get the highest trim possible in your budget. Dealers with stock want it out the door, it’s a buyers market.

You'll have to place an order to get a 4S optioned up with all the necessities though. At least in the US, I don't see dealer 4S inventory with PAR, RAS, etc. Maybe GTS fits into the sweet spot.

I drove the base Macan Ev and I was underwhelmed with it's performance. I then drove the RWD Taycan and thought, that's much more like it. The Taycan 4 CT i drove very recently, felt quite a bit more pokey again, but I haven't really pushed mine yet, so it's unfair to compare.

Not driven a 4s, but its stats are similar to my last EV, and that was a rocket ship in reality.

This time I was prioritising range, so the RWD is more than enough for me on the UK's awful roads.

OP go drive one or two and feel whats best for you. Also, I can't stress this enough, compare specs in the flesh.

I've always been a leather interior fan, but I FAR prefer the pepita on mine.

The extended leather vs base interior just doesn't bother me at all, but its a massive thing for others.

The cars can feel totally different based on the spec alone in my eyes.

With the caveat that I've only driven the pre-facelift models, I bought a Turbo having tested a 4S not because I thought the 4S lacking, more that I wanted to know I could turn everything up to 11 whenever the opportunity presented itself. There was a significant difference in performance potential, but 99% of the time it's more a matter of how much restraint on the accelerator is required to stay safe/legal/sensible with regard to road and traffic conditions. Especially now that the 4S has upgraded performance I'd recommend testing that, preferably with cars specced with different performance options (some of which come as standard with the higher trims), as you may well find them more of a real-world benefit than extra power.

And to add… I have a Turbo S (gen 1). If I would buy another one, I would only get something with more power ?‍

You are getting to spend not your own money for most of it. Custom build would be ideal and I am sure there are discounts. However, understand if the plan is to get the best deal and get your Taycan right away. I waited a year on mine.

This is good feedback thanks. The stock cars I’ve seen just seem to have random extras on them, I guess there’ll be a level of compromise required unless as you say I order a brand new one. Then the compromise will be cost vs the spec I want

Yes this is how I see it. There’s various literature online about them struggling to sell and perhaps that’s just untrue but I don’t suppose every other person can spend that kind of money so there is a more limited market.

I think the trip to the dealer will answer a lot of questions and probably create many more!
