My contract is also very clear on including HV battery (which is a new thing this year). The Porsche approved is basically a repair insurance so it's covered by a third party company. No doubt that they include the battery.

On your policy would be interested to know if the HV battery is on the list of items covered for defects and also on the list of items not covered for ageing/wear and tear?

It's is also on the list of stuff that can be subject to wear and tear. Which I would expect as that is a general clause - You won't be able to submit a claim on a battery because it has lost capacity over time etc.

Yes, that’s understandable, battery ageing/capacity is fair, it’s these known defects we’re seeing being classed as wear and tear after 8 years that is the concern. Maybe it’s legitimate for Porsche to say that pre- 8 years these defects will have shown and that’s what the battery warranty is for. Many will be unhappy with that.

But that loss of range is due to a manufacturing defect, that happened 8 years before I even touched the car, and only shown its teeth now.
So why should I not be able to claim it under warranty? Hell, 50 years after the car was produced, as long as the battery is subject to recalls, they should still fix it. It's not my fault they sold a battery that catches fire.

It is a proven, documented, well known and wide spread manufacturing defect. Why exactly should I be the one to pay for it, instead of them replacing it under a recall, like all other budget car brands do?
I paid premium for porsche to receive less service and be treated like a cow to be milked of every penny, even when they are the ones at fault?

If their stance on this doesn't change, this will be heading to courts, and I have a hard time seeing it going Porsche's way. There are precedents for how long batteries last, they clearly state that the error is due to a hardware recall, there are precedents for how battery recalls have been solved by other brands, including budget brands.

- All extended warranties are underwritten by insurance companies.
- For their extended warranty, Porsche AG adjudicates what constitutes a manufacturing defect and acceptable wear and tear. It is very likely that occurs according to actuary agreed terms/limits. Recourse for claim disputes will differ by local consumer legislation.
- Because, unlike Porsche, Audi has signed up to the UK Motor Ombudsman Vehicle Warranty Code of Practice, in the case of the ‘Audi Taycan’ , the Industry Ombudsman will independently arbitrate any claim dispute.
- Porsche AG submissions to safety regulators evidence that there is a latent production defect in some j1.1 HVB battery modules that may surface during the service life. Not all c. 140k Taycan j1.1 owners will experience this problem.
- As above, the recent TSB shows a shift in Porsche AG terminology from ‘defect‘ to ‘ageing’.
- I’d argue Tesla is the only established volume EV producer and provides the only real precedent for HVB service life expectation. Google will show multiple examples of Tesla’s completing hundreds of thousands of miles on their original batteries. You’ll also find Porsche originally claiming a usual battery life of 10-20 years. Defects apart, and following the battery care practice in the manual, that’s my expected HVB service life. Approaching 5 years old and after 32k miles, with one module replaced, I’m seeing negligible degradation.
- There are already 3rd party HVB specific warranties. If there’s evidence that Porsche is not standing by their product when my manufacture’s warranty expires in 3 years, I may consider one of those. Another crunch factor is whether Porsche will retail 6 year old Taycans. Both are ‘time to dump Porsche‘ questions.

They quoted the 40K service at $3600 and said it include brake replacement 🤣 Overall I like this dealership and the experience but it gets tiring when they try to rip you off with unnecessary work and then lie to your face that it’s required by Porsche.
Something I learned several Porsches ago - the service side of the house is a sales entity just like the front of the house is.

Yeah, I’ll need to keep that in mind going forward.

Sales is often a loss leader for service.

Update: It's been 3 weeks (to the day) since I dropped off my Taycan. I had to call the dealership to get an update (I have not heard anything from them since dropping the car off) but they said that most of the parts they need have arrived and they are going to replace 5 battery modules. It will probably be a couple more weeks before they get all the parts and complete the work so the estimated total downtime is 5-6 weeks. Stay tuned.

Closing in on 8 weeks since mine went in. Latest was work was going smoothly, but the repairs are not done in one repetition" and it would be a while still. Later in the week it was another "work ongoing, will update again next week." SA has been good with 1-2 updates per week regardless of if there is any progress or not. 1500+ miles on this base Macan and counting. Every time I start it I look forward to getting my car back.
