I went to 2 dealers here in Houston (the 3rd was too far away), and both wanted a $2k deposit. We ended up ordering a unique color, and ended up putting a $5k deposit. I had no issue with that because we ordered it for my wife, and she'd cancel me before she'd cancel her babyWhen I was shopping last summer, the dealer 15 min away from me wanted a $5k non-refundable deposit. There was no way I was agreeing to that. I bought from the dealer 40 minutes away with a refundable deposit of $2,500 in the event I changed my mind (he said the only time they do non-refundable is if you pick some strange colors exterior/interior and options that would make it harder for them to sell on the lot).
Swung by the dealer who lost the deal after I had received my car and parked in front to go get a gift for my brother and the salesman recognized me and said "nicely spec'd car." And I am thinking, you lost that sale because of your non-refundable deposit.

Let's say you make a nice profit. Then what do you do? Used car market is inflated and there's a risk of long delays ordering a new car.Interesting. Do I keep my Taycan or do I sell is for nice money ?!?!?
I don't think anyone on here is unaware of world events and the impacts it will be having on people's lives - I certainly didn't take that from G7's postI know, right? Those Ukrainians are being bombed to death and while huddling in the cold dark bomb shelters all they can think about is "how are we going to get the Americans their Porsches??"
Have just spoke to Porsche and been advised car has been produced and is at port waiting shipping.CP8=Production Complete, see attached. Mines been done a month, still sitting at the port waiting on a slow boat to Jacksonville.

Makes a lot of sense; we also had planning based around Ukraine situation - but also got caught when it happened much faster than anticipated and are now having to adjust - but with, now, unavoidable delays.Greetings everyone. Wanted to offer some intelligent speculation using my supply chain experience. Here's an article from today with some additional information from Porsche themselves.
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a39377285/porsche-production-shutdown-russia-invasion/
Porsche did not deny the authenticity of the email when we asked, and what it did tell Car and Driver generally fits with the leaked email. A company spokesperson said production of the 911 and 718 model series in the main plant is not currently affected and that production of the Cayenne in Bratislava is continuing this week. But, starting tomorrow afternoon, Porsche will suspend Taycan production in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen until at least the end of next week. Porsche’s Leipzig plant (pictured above), where it builds the Macan and Panamera, will start up again in "reduced operation" some time in the coming week thanks to what the company is calling "an improved supply situation."
So in supply chain we have obviously quite a large operation to support the extremely complex production process. There's the concept of "lean" or "just in time" manufacturing - where supplies are brought in as needed, not stockpiled in great amounts, and are ordered in order to support specific production runs.
In industry we have the term "single source" and "multi source" - certain items will unavoidably be single sourced, meaning there's only one supplier that makes them. This can be very important or tough to make pieces that can't justify having another supplier. For example, in an iPhone, the SOC (primary chip that runs the phone) is manufactured exclusively by TSMC in Taiwan. The camera sensors are exclusively made by Sony in Japan, etc. However the flash memory may be a multi source (for example, not stating a fact as I have no knowledge of this) from SanDisk, Micron, Samsung, etc since it's not an overly specific part (again stating broadly).
My reading of this, based mostly on gut and some knowledge firsthand in other industries, along with other sources, indicates that Porsche have been planning for impacts caused by a potential invasion of Ukraine for some time. The primary component mentioned here are wiring harnesses which are manufactured by LEONI WIRE in Ukraine. However they have many plants all over the place. It's likely that Porsche has been either dual sourcing or preparing to dual source the wiring harnesses.
If I had to guess their procurement division would have been carefully arranging backup supply chain sources once the Ukrainian invasion buildup began in Jan/Feb and they have paths to at least partially restart parts supplies asap - that’s like their whole job. The above quoted implies even that the Taycan shutdown is temporary - probably there was an unavoidable gap between the existing supply chain and the shifted capacity, because the Ukraine attack happened faster than expected.
Mostly speculation but as I mentioned, I have some knowledge from my own work informing it. Hope this can help calm some jitters! With any luck Taycan will be back online at some capacity before too long.
I received confirmation from my SA that production will be temporarily halted for 1-2 weeks at the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen factory. My production start date still says 3/11, however my arrival date has just updated from 4/29 to 6/3. It seems as though they are now updating TYD as best as they can considering the very sad situation in Eastern Europe. My TYD has an updated "order-created" date which reset to 3/3 (my actual order date was 2/14) with production starting tomorrow (3/11). However, the "Production Completed Date" keeps changing -- used to be 3/17, then 4/1 and today is pushed to 4/15.
This lines up with the various rumors around the factory shutting down or operating at reduced capacity.
While it sucks for the car, my hope is that the conflict at Ukraine is resolved quickly to end the human suffering.
Ask your dealer!Hello! My Porsche app isn't helping me a lot. I'm clueless if I'm getting my car according to plan or not (early April).
Here's the only two dates I'm sure:
- Phase 1 - ordered on the 26th November 2021
- Phase 2 - production programmed on the 16th February 2021
- Phase 3 - clueless now
Any insights? I've ordered a RWD...
