So I’m looking to get a Taycan in the spring around May. I spend half the year in Florida and half in PA. I’m looking to get a Tacan in the spring as my 2008 Mercedes sl550 has seen better days. Im not sure if I need the ”S” or if I should lease, as I will only put less than 5000 miles per year on the car.

So should I order one now or wait and see what the dealers in my area have as allocations in May. How much lead time do I need? There are not many in stock cars now.

I ordered my MY22 Taycan 4S at the end of September 2021. My scheduled delivery is 1 April 2022. IMHO you might want to start locking in an allocation as soon as possible if you are looking to specify your own options.

You'll probably want to start talking to your dealer now. They can give you a much better idea of what allocations they have coming up, and how many people are on their waiting list. If you're not picky, you can probably get something without too much fuss, but if you want it build exactly to your spec, that time is very close to up (or maybe even gone) right now.

IMO, you are already too late for delivery in May…unless, you’ll find something from the store?
as others said, check with dealers…i’m not familiar with situation in the States, but in my country, they are taking orders with delivery in 9-12 months…

Doesn't sound good for me then because we ordered ours on 10/15, and was told there's a chance we'll get it in March. So, now, it looks more like April or later.

You need to start talking to a dealer now. If a dealer has an allocation, they will have an idea on when the car will be built. We found an allocation for a CT4 in October that was going to be built beginning of Nov. Did the final order on 10/11, and the car was delivered yesterday (12/4) to the dealer. We just lucked out on timing and that our dealer had an allocation.

Just keep checking TYD  mine was originally mid-March and was pushed back to 1 April. Right after I ordered the Factory PPF so maybe that made a difference. The Freeze date has changed several times. I won't be upset if it happens to arrive a bit early.

So thanks for all the info. I might be willing to accept what the dealer has in inventory and compromise with the specs As I may not feel like waiting.
Do dealers carry sufficient stock to get a reasonable choice?

No, extra cars on the ground are scarce these days. You will most likely need to do a nationwide search and buy from anywhere.

unlikely and highly variable depending on the dealer and the region

you are asking for certainty where there is NONE - lead times, inventory, and availability are highly variable, conditional, and constantly changing

there is _NO_ answer - you’ll need to call several porsche dealers to determine what if any Taycan can be ordered or are available

there are no answers to your questions - and even the dealers don’t know much…

it is what it is, and the situation varies by region, time of day, recently events (has a customer backed out of a order on friday making the car available for you to purchase on sunday?)

I feel you’re looking for answers that can not be provided - and the peole that have the data are not posting on this forum. The truth (as best it can be) is with what ever Porsche dealer you just got off the phone with, and the answers will be different next week cause it’s always changing.

yes you will need to start making calls out to multiple dealers likely outside your local area to have a chance at finding one. Most dealers have very little inventory on lots due to supply side issues and demand so cars in the production pipeline arriving at dealers are often spoken for already but circumstances do change but allocations according to my SA are down from previous pre-Covid19 years.

Walking into my allocation at my local dealer earlier this year in July but I had been asking about the car for at least 3-4 mos prior. He had just gotten two allocations for a Nov 2021 build and Jan/Feb 2022 delivery and also had a pre-build coming in Nov 2021 which he offered me. So I took it...but that was July...unlikely you'll get one for May unless its a pre-build or someone who has backed out of an allocation...just that hard to get a car nowadays especially a custom/customer build.

Found this one on Champion's website....

Cast your net nationwide to ensure you can find one.....hopefully to your liking AND available!

In Austin TX I was able to get a mid Jan build allocation when I ordered a few weeks ago. I felt pretty lucky to get a build date that soon.
