It should embarrass Porsche as it reeks of cheapness and poor quality. Very bad look for the brand and worse still that it is being handled so poorly.
Porsche is not easily embarrassed…20 years ago I was the owner of a 996 that dropped precipitously in value due to failed RMS and IMS bearings. They should have stepped up and didn’t.

I brought my CT in for the PCM update and also brought my mobile charger. I asked what are they doing to the mobile charger and it was described as an “enhancement.” I asked how throttling down the the charging speed by 50% and doubling the charging time is an enhancement and received a couple of stammers in response. Not sure if the SA adviser was uneducated on the issue or he was bluffing.

"Enhancement Ultra" throttles charging speed down by 75%. :)

I do not use my mobile charger, but I did not bring it with me when I went in for the big update. I noticed the paper work said "mobile charger not provided." They never asked me for it nor did they bring it up. I personally think we know much more about the recalls and quirks of the calls than the service advisors. Mine told me yesterday, the Porsche database would let her know if my car had any recalls and there were none. Well I have no AC and sure sounds like the MWP5 recall. Will be funny if that is the recall they perform to get my AC running next week.

Have you gotten the big update yet? It fixes a ton of things with the PCM.
Nope, trying to hold off on the updates. Good news, Sirius was back today! I'm getting random warnings that my turn signal aren't working, but they're working fine. I've learned to just ignore the warnings.

the PMC+ does not have a software update - but the dealer will turn on the 50% button, but you can turn it off.
Can you (or anyone) explain how to manually adjust the EVSE from 100 to 50%? I just took a look at mine and its not obvious. I did notice on removing the plug that it seems the outlet is blemished from excess heat (just discolored, not melted).

more than likely he was completely clueless. the training for EVs, regardless of manufacturer, is abysmal.
most of the salespeople are not well versed on the cars that they are selling and there is a shortage of techs trained to work on the cars.

I had same 996 as yours (with IMS bearing failure) and sold it on live auction for about 80% what I paid, after 12 years of driving it. Was like driving a $100K+ car for free (apart from maintenance) for 12 years. I am not complaining.

Same here. I had the bearings replaced once and then they never leaked again. I loved that car and drove it for 3-4 years for less than the cost of a Honda.

I guarantee no one is working on it.
  • You can just turn it back to 100% yourself.
  • 100% is less reliable and likely to fault out overnight.
  • Nobody wants liability for a fire or other damage.
If you want 40 amp charging, dump the Porsche EVSE.
Period.
I don’t disagree. What third party charger would you suggest that will deliver a cool 40 amps?

Does anyone know how to turn the basic EVSE from 100 to 50? I looked at mine and its not at all obvious, although maybe it will be more so when I plug it in.

Just in case anyone missed my comment earlier, I did notice the outlet to be blemished from heat when I pulled the plug and inspected it. So take this stuff seriously. There are already 2000 or so Porsches destroyed from a fire.

ClipperCreek
Mustart
Tesla + TeslaTap will do the job (Tesla Corded Charger _NOT_ the Tesla Mobile Charger it's 32 amps, but also a good choice)
ChargePoint for wall mounted (not mobile)
WallBox wall mounted

all of the above chargers can be plug&play with your existing setup if you get the NEMA 14-50 versions (or 6-50 if you have that)

or this can be an opportunity to "upgrade" your setup to a wall mounted hardwired 60 amp EVSE from any of the vendors listed above.

Please consider reporting the heat damage issue to:
