Im just waiting for some brilliant software engineer to come out with a hack to overwrite the new default amperage setting. You know someone must be working on it.
I guarantee no one is working on it.
  • You can just turn it back to 100% yourself.
  • 100% is less reliable and likely to fault out overnight.
  • Nobody wants liability for a fire or other damage.
If you want 40 amp charging, dump the Porsche EVSE.
Period.

Changing the world by fighting injustice in the form of an underperforming accessory of your six figure car, are ya?:CWL:

You’re wasting your time, but, again if you have nothing better to spend what would be hours and hours of your time, more power to you.

And it’s principle, not principal…
What's your deal? Did you get your feelings hurt Karen? I never said I would spend any time on starting a suit did I? I Just said one needs to be done.

And the comma comes AFTER "again", not before and after "but".

My PMC/PMCC unit now defaults to 20 amps (internet upgrade no doubt as I didn't take it in).

I learned early on is that charging mid-day in the summertime really heat up the unit and cord (don't know about the plug). Since then I've charged after midnight; that has worked out well.

A quick test…

Today it's about 70° F. hereabouts. First I charged Taycan for about an hour at the 20 amp. default. Consumed about 4.83 KWH. Temperatures: Unit: 82°; 220V plug: 80°; cord: ~75°. Then I set the amperage to 40 amps. Consumption went to 9.88 KWH. Unit: 86°; 220V plug: 98°. The highest temperatures showed up on the Porsche cord connecting the PMC/PMCC to the 220V outlet. The range was 98° - 108°. The 108° reading (all readings done using handheld laser temperature guage) was at the junction where the power cord enters the PMC/PMCC.

I'm sure if it was a 100° day, the numbers would have been much higher for the 40 AMP setting.

The good news is that the 40AMP setting held throughout the charge. These temperatures are not excessive and I'm planning to manually switch to 40AMP unless the outdoor temperature is above 85°.

Anyone wanting to part with their nerfed PMCC? I'll take it off your hands for $200 for research purposes (yea, I'm a geek, I take things apart for fun). If you are in the greater Seattle area, I can meet you and we can avoid the shipping business and just trade two $100 bills for your used, nerfed PMCC. Or I can give you a 40A Tesla mobile charger instead, or a 32A if you prefer the newer generation (it has more different AC plug adapters available, great for a travel adapter). You will need an adapter such as a TeslaTap to use it with your Taycan, but that adapter will also allow you to use any of the thousands of Tesla destination chargers throughout the USA.

I took mine off the wall and replaced it with a third party charger so I can use my 50amp breaker with no issues!
The stock charger is now just large paper weight for me! I do not plan to use it unless they figure out a fix other than cutting the amperage in half!

Another option in the U.S. is to file a complain with the national auto safety board which collects info. on vehicle safety issues reported by consumers (https://www.nhtsa.gov/). Anyone having experienced overheating, melting of plugs, smoke, fire, excessive heat in association with operating the PMCC should report. They keep a tally of reports. Numbers count.

Similarly, if it is -- this is counterintuitive -- too easy to switch charging from their new 20 amp. default to 40 amp./hr. which Porsche apparently considers hazardous, that could be reported as a potential safety issue since many will override.

If a recall is ordered, the NHTSA mandates a remedy to the manufacturer similarly to the wiring harness issue we all heard about earlier this year.

Lost SiriusXM today.

F lawsuits. Gonna nuke Porsche from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

I'm wondering why I am not seeing the effects shared in this threat (but grateful about it). I plugged my car in last night and it charged to 85% (the default) from midnight to 9AM.

Is there something I am missing or is this nasty "enhancement" coming for me down the road?

So help me out...if I don't go to my Porsche dealer and don't get the"update" it will still work as before? Are you supposed to bring in the charger or it's done through the car software?
My 2022 has the newer software, why do I need an even newer one? Things work fine now.

it's not a software update for the car - it's a software update for the PMCC (the external box that charges your car)

your dealer doesn't update - the unit updates itself if it's connected to wifi.
