One more time: 85% Charging

Ok, then the next point. What is better?
3 cycles topping up from 65% to 85% (i.e. 3 days in a row)
Depleting to 25% and do 1 cycle getting back to 85% (i.e. once every 3 days)
so less cycle bigger span, or more cycles smaller span…

Life's too short to worry about this!

A cycle is 0% to 100% not top ups.

Thank you very much for pointing this out. I just looked at the MyPorsche app and it has two contradictory instructions: "charge the high-voltage battery with AC to a maximum charge state of 85%. Use timer." AND "Use time ... to program a high-voltage battery charge lever of approx. 80% for daily use…" I didn't realize that these two recommendations appear near each other on a bullet list about charging. I'm happily switching to 85%.

The quotes came from the online Taycan manual which I accessed through MyPorsche app. (I can provide exact navigation details ... it was under "Charging". I know. The manual is not upgraded as fast as the app.
Manuals always keeping things that have been exceeded by the time.
All together I referred not to the manual but to the app that handles the car incl. charging setup.

Agree, agree, agree. Life is way to short to even give this a passing thought. If this is so troublesome, trade the car in before the end of the battery warranty - 8 years - at least for me I am not planning on keeping this car for 8 years. Don't get me wrong, if fully enjoy my car but it is just that - a car. Not a work of art, not an investment, just a depreciating group of metal, plastic, rubber and leather pieces that should bring you tons of enjoyment and no worries. I hate to say it but if the level of charging is so worrisome maybe EV's are not the right car for you.

So true for this and many topics on this forum. It's a car, Porsche engineered a fantastic machine to be driven. Go drive it, charge, repeat.

Very interesting discussion. Not to distract from the main topic, I thought to myself why does OP worry given the 8Y/100k miles Porsche Battery Warranty.

Looking at the small print:

The warranty does not cover:

-Neglecting to follow correct charging procedures.

Your Owner’s Manual (which includes specific recommendations against using your car in certain ways) was written with the assumption that you will use your car only in ways for which it was designed. Please refer to your Owner’s Manual for important information on how to maximize the life and capacity of the high-voltage battery.

So certainly there’s some expectation to “follow the instructions/best practices” when it comes to charging in order to maintain warranty.

Plug in car. Charge to whatever you want/need. Unplug and drive car. Charge again when the range is below your next trip requirement. No alchemy required.

This is indeed a good read. What I miss is:
A battery in a satellite is much harder (expensive) to replace than a car battery.
The use case in a car is very different to a satellite.

The bottom line is: I am always charging to 100% and then I drive it quite low often to 5% and less, because it is for me most convenient. I only need about (60k km/400km) 180 charge cycles for me before I sell the car. If the SoH is 92% or 85% makes no difference to me. Because all other second hand cars with same age and mileage will have very similar SoHs.

So i had setup a home profile active with minimum charge 85% (which I understood is Porsche’s way of meaning maximum charge) and this morning it was still charged 100% ?!? What am I doing wrong? Car was fully charged for 4€ though

it's not your fault, porsche's software design is for the birds -- but, nope, that's not correct.

Last night I hadn’t set the timer, only the profile, so that’s probably why it didn’t stop @ 85%?

A profile alone can't be used to control charging. To ensure a charging session ends then you will need to include a departure timer and make it a repeating one.

When left to a profile and you don't disconnect the EVSE the charging session will pause for around 30 mins when your minimum charge has been reached and then continue to charge.

Better to have a sensible minimum charge of around 25% and a repeating timer with a target charge of 85%.
