that means more than 10.5 kW is being pulled/delivered-raw from the EVSE - 48 amps at 240 volts is 11,520 watts or 11.52 kW - that sort of electrical current load on 50 amp wire will thermally heat up the wire and thermally stress the insulation causing thermal expansion and contraction which over time can cause the insulation to fail…

check the circuit breaker size (I'm betting it's a 60 and not 50) and make sure the wire is rated for 60 amp loads based on local building codes for your region.

the problem with set ups like this is they work great right up until the moment they don't and then they fail…and it happens over time with no warning and normally at inopportune moments (Murphy's law).

the Ford Pro charger is _GREAT_ I love it - just makes sure the entire setup is "matched" - correct breaker size, correct wire gauge, and correct setting on the EVSE for the circuit.
The breaker is 50 amp. I just checked it.

The breaker is 50 amp. I just checked it.
I'd dial it down to 40 amps which is what the official rating in North America is for 50 amp circuits.

Then I'd investigate the wire gauge between the breaker and the Ford Pro EVSE…

_IF_ the wire is "overspec" for 50 amps and rated for 60 amps (or more) - breakers are less than $50 and swapping a breaker is less than an hour's labor…

breakes are cheap/easy to swap/upgrade _IF_ the wire is appropriate gauge.

what the building codes are "protecting" is the thermal load on the wire between point A and point B for any given circuit to avoid thermal-wire-fatigue failure (short, medium or long term).

and generally speaking the wire is the hardest thing to replace once it's installed, so upgrading that _IS_ where all the money is both in terms of materials cost and labor - swapping a breaker is easy - pulling 100 feet of new wire in a crawl space and behind dry wall is expensive.

if your wire is good for higher amp loads - swap the breaker and dial that puppy upto max and you're good to go.

if it's easy pull new wire for 60/80 amp loads and again run it flat out full power...

Like the guys said, change charger to 100%. I have a Ford Pro Connect charger and I get 10.3 kWh on a 50 amp circuit. Also, from one KC guy to another, congrats on the GTS. Were you at the 75 year get together at Aristocrat yesterday? If so, I saw your car and it looked great. It is tough to beat those GTS specific wheels. I was there with the grey Cross Turismo. To bad the weather was not better. Anyways, again congrats and welcome to the very small KC Cross and Sport Turismo club (I think we are the only members).
I wasn’t at Aristocrat yesterday. I was actually driving back from Chicago where I picked up the GTS. Hope to see you around!

Thank you Dave. I will dial it down until I get all the details squared away. You do a great job of watching out for all of us when it comes to this type of EVSE stuff and it is very appreciated! :like:

I just picked up a taycan GTS that came with the standard Porsche mobile charger plus. It charged great on the trip from the dealership back to home (7 hours), but when I got home I am getting only 4.3 kWh on a dedicated 60 amp circuit w NEMA 14-50. Before I call an electrician out - any ideas as to why?

My car has the 19.2 kWh option, but I know I can’t take advantage of that without a 100 amp circuit. I would, expect, though, around 11 kWh on a 60 amp circuit.
On the Porsche charger you need to manually set the Amperage. My guess is that it is set way low and you need to up to it to 40 Amps.Mine is set at that level and I also get 40 Amps charging

it is running at 50%, press the top icon (looks like plug) down and hold for few seconds until icon below it turns yellow, then press again until your charger switches to 100%. this will get you 8.6 kwh which is max with this charger.

I never noticed this before but my Porsche charger is likewise charging at only 20amps. I looked at both the charger and on the car display screen and don't see a plug icon. Any suggestions how to get my charge up to 40 amps? I've got the 50 amp breaker/wiring to my panel with the NEMA outlet that supports it.

How do you do this on the Porsche charger?

okay I just figured out how to change my charger. What a duh moment, since I got the car over a year ago I've only been charging at 20 amps
It probably better for your battery the lower charge rate and if you happy with the slower charge then no need to goto 100% since younhave switched it, just keep an eye on how warm your plug gets for first few charges just to make sure your plug circuit can handle the increased load comfortably.

Go into the settings menu on the charger and scroll through the options until you see the amperage menu and slide the amperage to forty

and remember to do this everytime manually before charging - because when the unit is unplugged or allowed to "go to sleep" when idle it will reset to 50% again…

Congrats on your new Taycan GTS! It's strange that you're experiencing slower charging at home compared to your trip. The NEMA 14-50 outlet should provide better charging rates. Since you've mentioned the dedicated 60 amp circuit, it's possible that there might be some technical glitch or configuration issue.

Before you call an electrician, you could check if there's any software update available for your Porsche mobile charger. Also, make sure all connections are secure and the breaker isn't tripped.

I can see you're into sustainable living, so you might find grupoecoquintas.com interesting. They focus on eco-friendly developments that blend with nature.
